106 <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />OCTOBER 26, 1981 <br />APPROVE WAIVER OF RIGHT TO OBJECT TO CONDEMNATION <br />PROCEEDINGS (MONROE-SAMPLE DEVELOPMENT AREA) <br />Mr. Hill explained that the Redevelopment Department was in the. <br />process of acquiring properties within the Monroe -Sample Develop- <br />ment Area, one of which was located at 710 Marietta Street. He <br />stated that the property was currently owned by the county and <br />the city held a mechanic's lien on the property in the amount of <br />$578.06. He advised that the county and the city were being <br />asked to sign a waiver of its right to object to the taking of <br />the property through condemnation proceedings. He noted that <br />the county had already approved the waiver. Upon a motion made <br />by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded<'by Mr. Hill and carried, the waiver <br />was approved. <br />APPROVED LEAF BURNING PROHIBITS BURNING IN THE <br />STREETS - OCTOBER 15 THROUGH NOVEMBER 15 <br />Mr. Leszczynski stated that the city presently had an ordinance <br />which allowed the burning of leaves in the city from October 15 <br />through November 15 in approved containers. He advised that the <br />burning of leaves on the city streets was prohibited and numerous <br />violations have occurred since the leaf burning became effective <br />on October 15th. He stated that burning in the streets causes <br />the burning up of petroleum in the asphalt and slurry seal which <br />results in the pavement crumbling and breaking up. Mr. Hill <br />stated that the ordinance allowing the burning mandates that <br />proper containers be used for the burning. He also stated <br />that another city ordinance prohibits the placement of debris <br />into the streets. He also stated that numerous calls were made <br />to the Fire Department over the weekend and several street fires <br />were put out. Mr. Hill stated that the Fire Department will <br />made a report to the City Attorney's Office of any fires they <br />are called upon to put out which occur in the street. In <br />addition, the Neighborhood Code Enforcement crews will be <br />asked to file reports of any violations they observe.
