70 REGULAR MEETING SEPTEMBER 21, 1981 APPROVAL OF HANDICAPPED PARKING PERMITS Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the following handicapped parking permits were approved and referred to the Deputy Controller's Office for issuance: Dr. Louis How & Beatrice How, 3602 S. Ironwood, Apt. 237 E Carl F. Krathwohl, 60724 Locust Rd. Patricia Robinson (mother) 1826 Pershing, S.B. Mrs. Philip R. Simon, 19465 Orchard Heights Dr. Ovia I. Rice, 2922 Miami, S.B. FILING OF CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the Certificate of Insurance for Arrow Services, Inc., 1815 North Michigan, Plymouth, Indiana, was filed. FILING OF MONTHLY REPORT FOR ST. JOSEPH COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY The report indicated a total of 281 dogs handled during the month of August, 200 cats handled and 44 other animals handled for a total of 525 animals. Upon a motion made by Mr. Kernan, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the report was filed. APPROVAL OF CLAIMS Chief Deputy Controller Sherrie L. Petz submitted Claim Docket No. 16838 through No. 17157 and recommended approval. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the report was filed and the claims approved. HORNETS NEST COMPLAINT - 1136 CORBY BOULEVARD Councilman Walter Szymkowiak referred to the problem experienced the preceding week concerning the hornets nest in a tree on the property at 1136 Corby Boulevard which hung out into the alley right-of-way. He felt it was the city's responsibility to remove the nest. Mr. Hill explained to Councilman Szymkowiak that it is the property owner's responsibility to maintain his property. He advised Councilman Szymkowiak that the property owner had informed the city he would have the nest taken care of, and fortunately Council President Lew McGann had been able to make certain arrange- ments to help in the removal of the nest. Councilman Szymkowiak maintained that he felt it would have been proper for the city to have the nest removed in the interests of the public safety. Mr. Hill stated that, according to the ordinance, the city must give a two-day notice to the property owner to take care of the problem before it can do anything. With the assistance of Mr. McGann, the problem had been resolved to everyone's satisfaction. There being no further business to come before the Board, upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Kernan and carried, the meeting was adjourned at 10:05 a.m. John E.
