402 <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />OCTOBER 17, 1983 <br />Upon a motion made by Mr..Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill <br />and carried, the above list as submitted was approved. <br />APPROVE REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR RECEIPT OF BIDS —MOVE <br />AND REHABILITATE PORTABLE CLASSROOM, IMPROVEMENTS TO <br />EXISTING CENTER AND INSTALLATION OF SIDEWALKS AND <br />PARKING LOT (LA SALLE-FILLMORE NEIGHBORHOOD CENTER) <br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Jon R. Hunt, Executive Director, <br />Department of Redevelopment, presented a formal request of <br />the Redevelopment Commission that the Board of Public Works <br />advertise for, accept and award bids, and supervise construction <br />of improvements of the LaSalle-Fillmore Neighborhood Center. <br />These improvements will include moving one portable classroom <br />from Greene School to-323 South Bendix Drive, rehabilitation <br />of that classroom, making certain improvements to the existing <br />center and installing appropriate sidewalks and parking lot. <br />The letter further stated that this request is based on the <br />need to have the handling of the bid process and the construction <br />work supervised by the Department of Public Works on behalf of <br />the Redevelopment Commission. Upon a motion made by Mr. <br />Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the above <br />request was approved.. <br />APPROVE REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR RECEIPT OF BIDS - <br />SALE OF ABANDONED VEHICLES <br />Ms. Katherine Barnard, Director of the Department of Code <br />Enforcement, requested permission to advertise for the sale <br />of approximately fourteen (14) abandoned vehicles, twelve <br />(12) of which are valued at over One Hundred Dollars ($100.00) <br />and all of which were being stored at Hurwich Impoundment Lot, <br />1610 Circle Avenue. It was noted that all vehicles have been <br />stored more than the thirty (30) days, identification checks <br />had been run for auto theft, and the owners and lienholders <br />notified. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded <br />by Mr. Hill and carried, the request was approved and a date <br />of October 31, 1983, was established for the receiving of <br />sealed bids. <br />APPROVAL OF POLICY REGARDING_ INTERSECTION SOLICITATION <br />DURING H014E FOOTBALL GAME WEEKENDS <br />Mr. Leszczynski presented to the Board for.approval a policy <br />regarding intersection solicitation during home football <br />game weekends. The policy is as follows: <br />In the best interest of the free flow of <br />traffic and the safety of both solicitors <br />and drivers, it is the policy of the Board <br />of Public Works that no intersection solicita- <br />tions will be approved for home football game <br />weekends. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Hill, seconded by Mr. Leszczynski <br />and carried, the above policy was approved and adopted. <br />APPROVE REQUEST TO CONDUCT INTERSECTION SOLICITATION - <br />MISHAWAKA EVENING EXCHANGE CLUB <br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Alan Butt, Vice -President of <br />the Mishawaka Evening Exchange Club, 2626 Prescott Drive, <br />Mishawaka, Indiana, stated that the Mishawaka Evening <br />Exchange Club would like permission to solicit funds/donations <br />at two (2) South Bend locations on Saturday, November 12, 1983. <br />The proposed two sites are Edison/Ironwood and Angela/Michigan. <br />Mr. Butt stated that the club will have approximately two to <br />three members soliciting at each site from 9:00 a.m, to 1:00 p.m. <br />u <br />1 <br />
