349 <br />REGULAR MEETING AUGUST 29, 1983 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was convened <br />at 9:35 a.m. on Monday, August 29, 1983, by President John E. <br />Leszczynski, with Mr. Leszczynski, Mr. Richard L. Hill and <br />Mr. Joseph E. Kernan present. Also present was Assistant <br />City Attorney Carolyn V. Pfotenhauer. <br />MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING APPROVED <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Kernan, seconded by Mr. Leszczynski <br />and carried, the minutes of the August 22, 1983, regular <br />meeting of the Board were approved. <br />AGENDA ITEM ADDED <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill <br />and carried, a request to conduct a walk-a-thon on October <br />1, 1983 was added to the agenda. <br />ANNOUNCEMENT OF NEXT MEETING DATE OF BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that due to the Labor Day holiday, <br />the next regular meeting of the Board of Public Works would <br />be held on Tuesday, September 6, 1983 at 9:30 a.m. <br />OPENING OF BIDS - CONSTRUCTION OF BASKETBALL COURT <br />BEHIND EAST SECTOR POLICE SUBSTATION <br />This was the date set for receiving and opening of sealed <br />bids for the above referred to project. The Clerk tendered <br />proofs of publication of Notice in the South Bend Tribune <br />and the Tri-County News which were found to be sufficient. <br />The following bids were opened and publicly read: <br />RIETH-RILEY CONSTRUCTION CO. Bid was signed by R. L. McCormick, <br />P.O. Box 1775 Supt., Non -Collusion Affidavit <br />South Bend, Indiana 46634 was in order and a 5% Bid Bond <br />was submitted. <br />TOTAL AMOUNT OF BID: $12,901.10 <br />WALSH & KELLY, INC. Bid was signed by Thomas 0. <br />24358 State Road 23 Walsh, President and Assistant <br />South Bend, Indiana 46614 Secretary D. Joyce Glass, Non - <br />Collusion Affidavit was in order <br />and a 5% Bid Bond was submitted. <br />TOTAL AMOUNT OF BID: $12,782.50 <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Kernan <br />and carried, the above bids were referred to the Engineering <br />Department for review and recommendation. <br />REJECT BID FOR NON-COMPLIANCE - MANHOLE RESTORATION <br />PROJECT (T. GEORGE PODELL & COMPANY) <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that the bid of T. George Podell and <br />Company submitted on.August 22, 1983 for the above referred <br />to project did not contain sufficient surety. At that time, <br />T. George Podell was granted twenty-four (24) hours in which <br />to provide the appropriate surety since adequate surety was <br />not provided. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, <br />seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the bid of T. George <br />Podell and Company was rejected for non-compliance. <br />
