312 <br />REGULAR MEETING JULY 25, 1983 <br />BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION OF SOUTH BEND, <br />MISHAWAKA &.ST. JOSEPH COUNTY <br />DIVISION OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT <br />The targeted goal for the BDC is to assist in one loan <br />project to retain a large manufacturing concern within <br />the City of South Bend, with emphasis on creating <br />future, long: -term employment opportunities for low and <br />moderate income persons. <br />The BDC may expend monies for activities under this <br />contract in an amount not to exceed $350,000.00. <br />BUREAU OF HOUSING <br />PAINT -UP, REPAIR AND.WEATHERIZATION PROGRAM <br />The targeted goals for.the Paint-Up,.Repair and Weather- <br />ization Program"are to: provide short-term jobs for 33 <br />unemployed people and to paint 200 residential structures. <br />The total cost'of this program shall not exceed $230,000.00. <br />BUREAU OF HOUSING <br />BUREAU OF HOUSING IMPROVEMENT PROJECT <br />The targeted goals for the Bureau of Housing Improvement <br />Project are to install new windows in the general office <br />area; install a new sewer valve; strip and seal floors; <br />paint exterior of building and complete repairs to the <br />basement. <br />The total cost of this activity shall not exceed $10,000.00. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Kernan <br />and carried, the above Community Development contracts were <br />approved and executed. <br />REQUEST TO ERECT TENT FOR RETAIL OPEN AIR TROPICAL <br />PLANT TENT SALE REFERRED <br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. John Simpson, 8030 N.W. 20-Ct., <br />Sunrise, Florida, requested permission to erect a tent for a <br />retail open air tropical plant tent sale at 1711 South Bend <br />Avenue from August 10, 1983 through September 9, 1983. He <br />stated that he is also in the process of completing an <br />application for an Open Air Stand license. Upon a motion <br />made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Kernan and carried, <br />the above request was referred to the Bureau of Traffic and <br />Lighting for review and recommendation. <br />APPROVE REQUEST OF REINKE & SONS, INC. TO CLOSE THE NORTH <br />ONE/HALF OF THE NORTH/SOUTH ALLEY BEHIND THE FEDERAL <br />BUILDING FOR 400 DAYS <br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Harold G. Reinke, President, <br />Carl J. Reinke & Sons, Inc., P.O. Box 3095, South Bend, <br />Indiana, requested permission to close the north/south <br />alley starting at a pointonJefferson Street going.south <br />to the first intersecting alley which is at the south end <br />of the present Federal Building. Reinke and Sons will be <br />doing the renovation and improvements of the Federal Building <br />and the U..S. Courthouse in South Bend. They are.requesting <br />the closure of the above referred to alley for a period of <br />four hundred days. Additionally, they have indicated that <br />it may be necessary to have:a portion of Jefferson Street <br />closed off, one lane width, in order to accommodate cranes <br />to set units on top of the roof structure. <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that Mr. Ralph J. Wadzinski, Manager, <br />Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, has reviewed the request of <br />Reinke and Sons and recommends approval subject to the <br />following: <br />1 <br />1 <br />1 <br />
