REGULAR MEETING JULY 25, 1983 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was convened at 9:35 a.m., on Monday, July 25 1983, by President John E. Leszczynski, with Mr. Leszczynski, Mr. Richard L. Hill and Mr. Joseph.E. Kernan present. Also present was Assistant City Attorney Carolyn V. Pfotenhauer. MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING APPROVED Upon a motion made by Mr.-Kernan, seconded by Mr. Leszczynski and carried, the minutes of the July 18, 1983, regular meeting of the Board were approved. APPROVE INTENDED USE OF REVENUE SHARING FUNDS - REFURBISHING OF EAST SECTOR POLICE SUB -STATION - $15,000.00 This was the date set for holding a public hearing on the proposed use of Revenue Sharing funds in the amount of- $15,000.00. The appropriation will be used forthe reburbish- ing of the East Sector Police Sub -Station. The Clerk tendered proofs of publication=of notice in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri-County News which were found to be sufficient. In accordance with guidelines adopted forsuchuse of Revenue Sharing funds, information about this public hearing was forwarded to the.following senior citizen groups with the request that the notice be posted: Foster Grandparents, Hansel Neighborhood Center, REAL Services, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Senior Citizens Group of LaSalle Park, Harvest House Centers and Howard Park Senior Citizens' Center. Mr. Hill advised that the East Sector Sub -Station is owned by the City and was previously leased by Madison Center for a drug treatment program. The $15,000.00 in revenue sharing funds will be used to correct numerous building and fire code violations which currently exist. The funds will be used for both electrical and structural. repairs. The Building Department in cooperation with the Engineering Department is in the process of preparing specifications based on inspections that have been held. The East Sector Sub -Station is located at 420 East Frances Street. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the public hearing on this matter was closed and the Clerk was instructed to forward a favorable recommendation on this appropriation to the Controller's Office and the City Clerk's office along with minutes of the public hearing on this matter. AWARD BID - FIRE DEPARTMENT AMBULANCE In a letter to the Board, Fire Chief Timothy J. Brassell, recommended the Board award the bid of Rolland Speciality Vehicles & Products, 444 Laskey Road A & B, Toledo, Ohio 43612 in the amount of $35,500.00 including a trade of $11,000.00. The Chief indicated that this was the lowest bid with trade-in. The Chief further indicated that the proposal of Rolland Speciality meets specifications and is within limits of the money appropriated for this purchase. Also, Rolland can provide a 1983 chassis when other bidders quoted a 1984. This will speed-up delivery time and will be advantageous to the City. It was noted that bids for the Fire Department ambulance were opened on July 18, 1983. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the above bid was awarded.
