REGULAR MEETING <br />MAY 16, 1983 <br />APPROVE REQUEST OF HOME AND SCHOOL ORGANIZATION OF MADISON <br />SCHOOL TO CLOSE STREET FOR ICE CREAM SOCIAL -'MAY 20. 1983 <br />Ms. Nancy Foldesi, Ice.Cream Social Chairman - Madison School <br />Home and School Organization requested permission to have <br />.Park Street between Lafayette and Main blocked off on <br />Friday, May 20, 1983 between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and <br />8:00 p.m. for the Madison School annual ice cream social to <br />be held in Leeper Park. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, <br />seconded by Mr. Hill and 'carried, the above request was approved. <br />REQUEST TO CONDUCT BLOCK PARTY REFERRED (1800 BLOCK MARINE) <br />In a letter to the Board, Ms. Maralee Hertel, 1826 Marine <br />Street, South Bend, on behalf of theresidentsof the 1800 <br />block of Marine Street, requested permission to have a block <br />party from 9:00 a.m, to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, 1983. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill <br />and carried, the above request was referred to the Bureau of <br />Traffic and Lighting and the Police Department Traffic <br />Division for review and recommendation. <br />REQUEST OF AVALON GROTTO TO CONDUCT PARADE REFERRED <br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Robert McPhee, Chairman 1983 <br />Midwest Grotto Convention, requested permission to conduct a <br />parade on September 24, 1983, commencing at 1:00 p.m. Upon <br />a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and <br />carried, the above request was referred to the Bureau of <br />Traffic and Lighting and the Police Department Traffic <br />Division for review and recommendation. <br />APPROVE ST. JOSEPH COUNTY MEMORIAL SOCIETY REQUEST TO <br />CONDUCT MEMORIAL DAY PROGRAM (MAY 30, 1983) <br />In a letter presented to the Board, Mr. Red Conerv, President <br />of the Memorial Society, outlined the activities to be <br />conducted at the Court House Monument on May 30, 1983 beginning <br />at 2:00 p.m. As in past years, a portion of Washington Street <br />between Main and Lafayette Streets in front of the monument <br />will be blocked off for the ceremony. The north lane will be <br />kept open to vehicular traffic and emergency vehicles at all <br />times. Upon a motion made by Mr.. Leszczynski, seconded by <br />Mr. Hill and carried, the activities outlined above were <br />approved and Mr. Kernan was appointed as official Board <br />representative to attend the ceremony. <br />APPROVE REQUEST OF UNIT 303 AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY <br />TO CONDUCT SALE OF POPPIES 14AY 20 and- '21,.19'83 <br />Ms. Dixielee Clark, Secretary, Unit 303 American Legion <br />Auxiliary requested permission to sell veteran -made poppies <br />on the public sidewalks on Friday and Saturday, May 20 and 21, <br />1983. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by <br />Mr. Hill and carried, the above request was approved. <br />REQUEST TO CONDUCT STREET SERVICES REFERRED <br />In a letter to the Board, Ms. Dora Lottie, 2024 Pershing Street, <br />South Bend, requested permission to conduct street services on <br />the corner of Washington and Walnut Streets from 6:00 p.m. to <br />8:00 p.m. during the first week of June. She and other members <br />of the Saints Memorial Church of God in Christ will be teaching <br />and distributing literature concerning religion. Upon a motion <br />made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the <br />above request was referred to the Bureau of Traffic and Light- <br />ing and the Police Department Traffic Division for review and <br />recommendation. <br />
