1011 <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />JANUARY 17, 198 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was <br />convened at 9:30 a.m., January 17, 1983, by President <br />John E. Leszczynski, with Mr. Leszczynski, Mr. Richard L. <br />Hill and Mr. Joseph E. Kernan present. Also present was <br />Assistant City Attorney Carolyn V. Pfotenhauer. <br />MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING APPROVED <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Hill, seconded by Mr. Kernan and <br />carried, the minutes of the January 10, 1983, regular meeting <br />of the Board were approved as submitted. <br />PUBLIC HEARING AND RECOMMENDATION - VACATION OF PART <br />OF EAST HEST ALLEY FROM EAST RACE TO NILES AVENUE <br />Mr. Leszczynski stated that the Redevelopment Commission had <br />petitioned the Common Council for the vacation of part of the <br />east/west alley in the block bounded by the East Race, LaSalle, <br />Niles and Colfax in the original plat of the town of Lowell <br />Addition. He advised that affected property owners had been <br />notified of the Board's public hearing and no objections or <br />remonstrances were filed with the Board. Favorable comments <br />in support of the vacation were received from the Engineering <br />Department, Area Plan Commission and Community Development <br />Department. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded <br />by Mr. Hill and carried, the public hearing was closed and <br />the Clerk was instructed to forward a favorable recommendation <br />to the Common Council for vacation of the above mentioned <br />alley, subject to any and all utility easements. <br />PUBLIC HEARING AND RECOMMENDATION - VACATION OF EAST/LEST <br />ALLEY BETWEEN LOTS 33 AND 34 OF THE ORIGINAL PLAT OF THE <br />TOTn N INOW CITY OF SOUTH BEND) <br />Mr. Leszczynski again stated that the Redevelopment Commission <br />had petitioned the Common Council for the vacation of the <br />east/west alley in the block bounded by West Washington, <br />South Main, West Jefferson and the service drive between <br />Washington and Jefferson Streets in the Original Plat of <br />the Town (now City) of South Bend. Favorable comments in support of <br />the vacation were received from the Engineering Department, <br />Area Plan Commission and Community Development Department. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Kernan, seconded by Mr. Hill <br />and carried, the public hearing was closed and the Clerk <br />was instructed to forward a favorable recommendation to <br />the Common Council for vacation of the above mentioned <br />alley, subject to any and all utility easements. <br />REQUEST TO HOLD WORLD'S LARGEST GARAGE SALE REFERRED <br />Ms. Mikki Dobski, City Events Coordinator, requested approval <br />from the Board to hold the World's Largest Garage Sale in <br />the Colfax Parking Garage on Saturday, June 4, 1983. Upon <br />a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and <br />carried, the request was referred to the Bureau of Traffic <br />and Lighting and the Police Traffic Division for review <br />and recommendation. <br />REQUEST TO HOLD CONCOURSE PORTION OF STUDEBAKER DRIVER'S <br />CLUB ANNUAL MEET IN DOWNTOW14 AREA REFERRED <br />In a letter to the Board, Ms. Mikki Dobski, City Events <br />Coordinator, on behalf of the Studebaker Driver's Club, <br />requested permission to hold the concourse portion of the <br />Annual Meet in the downtown area to be 'veld on Thursday, <br />July 21, 1983. Additionally, the Driver's Club requests <br />permission to use floors three through six of the Colfax <br />Parking Garage for their Swap Meet from July 19th through <br />July 21st. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded <br />by Mr. Hill and carried, the request was referred to the <br />Bureau of Traffic & Lighting and the Police Traffic Division <br />for review and recommendation. <br />
