REGULAR MEETING AUGUST 13, 1984 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was convened at <br />9:32 a.m. on Monday, August 13, 1984, by President John E. <br />Leszczynski, with Mr. Leszczynski and Mr. Michael L. Vance <br />present. Board member Richard L. Hill was not in attendance. <br />Also present was Assistant City Attorney Carolyn V. Pfotenhauer. <br />AGENDA ITEM STRICKEN <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that the Offer to Purchase Real Property <br />Bureau of Housing Local Homesteading Program - 516 North College <br />Street, is being stricken from the agenda as it is not ready for <br />Board consideration at this time. <br />APPROVE MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Vance, seconded by Mr. Leszczynski and <br />carried, the minutes of the August 6, 1984, regular meeting of <br />the Board were approved. <br />OPENING OF BIDS - STUDEBAKER CORRIDOR PHASE I PROJECT <br />This was the date set for receiving and opening of sealed bids <br />for the above referred to project. The Clerk tendered proofs <br />of publication of Notice in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri- <br />County News which were found to be sufficient. The following <br />bids were opened and publicly read: <br />WALSH & KELLY, INC. Bid was signed by Thomas 0. Walsh, <br />24358 State Road 23 President and D. Joyce Glass, <br />South Bend, Indiana 46614 Assistant Secretary, Non -Collusion <br />Affidavit was in order and a 5% <br />Bid Bond was submitted. <br />TOTAL AMOUNT OF BID: 1121,626*01 <br />RIETH-RILEY CONSTRUCTION Bid was signed by Robert L. McCormick, <br />COMPANY, INC. Superintendent, Non -Collusion Affidavit <br />P.O. Box 1775 was in order and a 5% Bid Bond was <br />South Bend, Indiana 46634 submitted. <br />TOTAL AMOUNT OF BID: $102,455.00 <br />KASER-SPRAKER CONSTRUCTION,INC. Bid was signed by Gary.L. Spraker, <br />25487 W. St. Rd. 2 President and Daniel H. Kaser, <br />P.O. Box 3605 Secretary, Non -Collusion Affidavit <br />South Bend, Indiana was in order and a 5% Bid Bond <br />was submitted. <br />TOTAL AMOUNT OF BID: $127,370.00 <br />Board Attorney Carolyn V. Pfotenhauer advised and recommended that <br />the bid submitted by LaFree Excavating, Inc:, 11252 West Third <br />Street, Osceola, Indiana, be rejected as the bid and Non -Collusion <br />Affidavit were not signed. Upon a motion made by Mr. Vance, <br />seconded by Mr. Leszczynski and carried, the bid of LaFree <br />Excavating was rejected for this fatal defect. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Vance and <br />carried, the above bids were referred to the Engineering Depart- <br />ment for review and recommendation. <br />AWARD BIDS - CAR WASHES FOR CITY VEHICLES <br />In a letter to the Board, Police Chief Charles T. Hurley recom- <br />mended that the Board award the bids of Hi -Speed Auto Wash, 609 <br />E. LaSalle, South Bend, Indiana, and Don's Marathon & Car Wash, <br />Inc., 1836 South Michigan Street, South Bend, Indiana as follows: <br />
