REGULAR MEETING <br />MARCH 26.1984 <br />Mr. Reinke indicated that the -individual contestants will begin <br />at 6:30 a.m, followed by the relay teams at T:00 or ,7:30 a.m. <br />depending on the recommendation.of the Police controlling the <br />course. The relay participants would consist of three`(3) <br />individuals, each one participating in a different event in <br />the same order as above. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, <br />seconded by Mr. Vance and carried, the above request was referred <br />to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, the Police Department <br />Traffic Division and the Controller's Office for review and <br />recommendation. <br />REQUEST OF ST. STEPHEN'S CHURCH TO CONDUCT <br />FESTIVAL RUN (JULY 7, 1984) REFERRED <br />In a letter to the Board., Mr. Ricardo Parra, on behalf of St. <br />Stephen's Parish Festival Race Committee, 1338 King Street, <br />South Bend, Indiana, requested that the date of July 7, 1984 <br />be reserved for the St. Stephen's Parish Festival Run which is <br />a part of the parish festival. Mr. Parra'indicated that the <br />route to be utilized will be submitted at a later date. Upon <br />a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, <br />the above request was referred to the Bureau of Traffic and Light- <br />ing and the Police Department Traffic Division for review and <br />recommendation. <br />APPROVE REQUEST OF YWCA TO USE "NO PARKING" AND PEDESTRIAN <br />CROSSING SIGNS FOR SOCCER CLINIC APRIL 29. 1984 <br />In a letter to the Board, Ms. Marzy Bauer, Financial Development <br />Director, YWCA of St.'Joseph County, 802 North Lafayette Boulevard, <br />South Bend, Indiana indicated that the YWCA will be holding a <br />Soccer Clinic for girls and women on Sunday, April 29, 1984 from <br />1:00 p.m, to 3:00 p.m. The Clinic will be held on the field at <br />Leeper Park directly across from the YWCA and it is anticipated <br />that the participants will be going back and forth across. <br />Lafayette Boulevard between the YWCA building and the park. In <br />the interest of safety, the YWCA is requesting permission to use <br />"no parking" signs and an "A" frame "Pedestrian Crossing" sign <br />during the Soccer Clinic, as utilized last year for this event. <br />Ms. Bauer indicated that the YWCA will be responsible for the <br />setting of the signs in place before the event begins and <br />removing.them at the conclusion of the clinic. Mr. Leszczynski <br />advised that Mr. Ralph Wadzinski, Manager, Bureau of Traffic <br />and Lighting, has reviewed this request and recommends approval. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Vance <br />and carried, the above recommendation was accepted and the <br />request approved. <br />REQUEST OF VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS OF THE U.S. TO CONDUCT <br />POPPY DAY SALES (MAY 19 & 20, 1984) REFERRED <br />In a letter, Mr. Lowell Spalding, Poppy Chairman and 'George <br />Grenert, Quartermaster of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the <br />U.S., South Bend Post No. 1167, 1047 Lincolnway East, South <br />Bend, Indiana respectfully requested permission to hold their <br />annual Poppy Day Sales on the sidewalks throughout the City of. <br />South Bend on Friday, and Saturday, May 19 and 20, 1984. The <br />purpose of the sale.is for securing funds for welfare and. <br />relief work among 'widows and orphans of Veterans and the sale <br />will be conducted by use of canister sales. Upon a motion <br />made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Vance and carried, <br />the above request was referred to the Bureau of Traffic and <br />Lighting and the Police Department Traffic Division for review <br />and recommendation. <br />
