REGULAR MEETING MARCH 26, 1984
yard. Mr. Dunfee asked whether in the interest of efficiency
and cost whether the resolution being prepared could include
a Board recommendation that no activity be conducted within
the 500 feet unless it was within an enclosed structure.
Mr. Hill answered that this is the most sensitive one of the
three areas that the Common Council will be reviewing. He
stated that he would prefer that Metal Resources return to
the Board at a later time concerning this matter as the Board
wants to make sure there is a very definite line drawn.
Mr. bunfee stated that Metal Resources is the only scrapyard
dealer subject to any of these regulations and as a matter of
public record wants the Board to know that they are doing a
good job and they want everyone to know that. He stated that
Metal Resources is happy to abide by the findings of the Board
and Council but does not want to be in a position to come back
before the Board at a later time concerning the building of a
warehouse/office and have it stated that the request was pre-
viously denied by the Board.
Mr. Hill indicated that he wished the record to reflect that this
is not a denial by the Board, and stated that if Metal Resources
plans to construct in the area in the future, the criteria that
they are going to have to rely on is that it be all enclosed.
He stated that the Board at this point is going to report to the
Common Council that there will be no immediate activity in the
area subject to another independent request in the future.
AWARD BID STREET MATERIALS FOR 1984
In a letter to the Board, Mr. Sean Watt, Director, Division of
Transportation, requested that the Board award the bid of Item
No. 16 Fine Aggregate No. 23 & 24 to St. Joseph Materials Company,
Inc., 60669 Orange Road, South Bend, Indiana. Mr. Leszczynski
advised that bids for Street Materials were awarded by the Board
on March 12, 1984, but this item was overlooked in the _recommenda-
tion at that time. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded
by Mr. Hill and carried, the above recommendation was accpeted
and the bid awarded.
AWARD BID AND APPROVE CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT - CALVERT STREET
PAVING (WEST OF MAPLE ROAD) PROJECT
In a letter to the Board, Mr. Neil A. Shanahan, Manager, Bureau
of Public Construction, recommended the Board accept the low bid
of Ziolkowski Construction, Inc., 1005 South Lafayette, P.O.
Box 1106, South Bend, Indiana, in the amount of $257,178.25.
Mr. Leszczynski further advised that in accordance with the
award of this bid, a contract in said amount was being submitted
for Board approval. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski,
seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the above bid was awarded and
the contract approved subject to Ziolkowski Construction providing
the appropriate Performance Bond and Labor and Materials Payment
Bond.
