M <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />JANUARY 3. 1984 <br />The regular meeting of -the Board of Public Works was convened <br />at 9:34 a.m, on Tuesday, January 3, 1984, by President John <br />E. Leszczynski, with Mr. Leszczynski, Mr. Richard L. Hill <br />and Mr. Joseph E. Kernan present. Also present was Assistant <br />City Attorney Carolyn V. Pfotenhauer. <br />MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING APPROVED <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Kernan, seconded by Mr. Hill and <br />carried, the minutes of the December 27, 1983, regular meeting <br />of the Board were approved. <br />AWARD BID - TURN OUT COATS FOR FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />In a letter to the Board, Fire Chief Timothy J. Brassell, <br />indicated that after carefully reviewing the bids submitted <br />for turn -out coats with the members of the Joint Occupational <br />Safety and Health Committee of the Union Local #362, it is his <br />recommendation to accept the bid of Midwest Fire & Safety <br />Equipment Company, 1605 Prospect Street, Indianapolis, <br />Indiana, with the following options: leather elbow patches <br />and badge numbers for a total of $31,239.99. This was the <br />low bid received. Mr. Leszczynski advised that bids for this <br />equipment were opened at the Board meeting held on December <br />12, 1983. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by <br />Mr. Kernan and carried, the above bid was awarded. <br />APPROVE RECOMMENDATION TO REJECT BIDS FOR THE TOWING OF ABANDONED <br />VEHICLES AND STORAGE OF ABANDONED VEHICLES AND REOUEST TO READVERTISE <br />In a memorandum to the Board, Ms. Katherine Barnard, Director of <br />the Department of Code Enforcement, indicated that she has <br />reviewed the only bid of Hurwich Iron Company received by the <br />Board on December 27, 1983, for the storage and towing of <br />abandoned vehicles and recommends the bid be rejected as it <br />is not acceptable. Additionally, she requested permission to <br />readvertise for the receipt of bids for the towing and <br />storage of abandoned vehicles. Upon a motion made by Mr. <br />Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the bid of <br />Hurwich Iron Company was rejected and the request to readvertise <br />for the receipt of bids for the above referred to services was <br />approved. <br />APPROVE REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR RECEIPT OF BIDS - MAPLE <br />ROAD PAVEMENT PROJECT AND MAPLE ROAD SEWERS PROJECT <br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Neil A. Shanahan, Manager, Bureau <br />of Public Construction, requested permission to advertise for <br />the receipt of bids for the Maple Road Pavement Project and <br />the Maple Road Sewers Project. Mr. Leszczynski advised that <br />these improvements relate to the ethanol production facility <br />and that UDAG funds and cummulative sewer funds will be <br />utilized. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded <br />by Mr. Hill and carried, the above request was approved. <br />APPROVE REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR RECEIPT OF BIDS. - <br />SALE OF ABANDONED VEHICLES <br />Ms. Katherine Barnard, Director, Department of Code Enforce- <br />ment, requested permission to advertise for the sale of <br />approximately 11 abandoned vehicles, 9 of which are valued <br />at over One Hundred Dollars ($100.00) and all of which are <br />being stored at Hurwich Impoundment Lot, 1610 Circle Avenue. <br />It was noted that all vehicles have been stored more than <br />the thirty (30) days, identification checks had been run <br />for auto theft, and the owners and lienholders notified. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill <br />and carried, the request was approved and a date of January <br />16, 1984, was established for the receiving of bids. <br />
