NJ <br />REGULAR MEETING NOVEMBER 28, 1983 <br />APPROVE RECOMMENDATION TO REJECT OFFICE AUTOMATION <br />BIDS AND REQUEST TO READVERTISE <br />In a letter to the Board, City Controller Joseph E. Kernan, <br />requested that the Board reject the bids received on <br />October 31, 1983 for the office automation system and that <br />permission be granted to readvertise. Mr. Kernan stated <br />that Crowe, Chizek and Company has conducted a preliminary <br />review of the bids and recommend that the bids be rejected <br />because they were either too expensive ordid not meet the <br />required specifications. Upon a motion made by Mr. <br />Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the above <br />recommendation and request were approved. <br />APPROVE REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR RECEIPT OF BIDS - <br />SALE OF ABANDONED VEHICLES <br />Ms. Katherine. Barnard, Director of the Department of Code <br />Enforcement, requested permission to advertise for the <br />sale of approximately nine (9) abandoned vehicles, eight <br />(8) of which are valued at over One Hundred Dollars <br />($100.00) and all of which are being stored at Hurwich <br />Impoundment Lot, 1610 Circle Avenue. It was noted that <br />all vehicles have been stored more than the thirty (30) <br />days, identification checks had been run for auto theft, <br />and the owners and lienholders notified. Upon a motion <br />made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, <br />the request was approved and a date of December_12, 1983, <br />was established for the receiving of sealed bids. <br />APPROVE REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR RECEIPT OF BIDS - <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT TELEMETRY EQUIPMENT <br />In a letter to the Board, Fire Chief Timothy J. Brassell, <br />requested permission to advertise for the receipt of bids <br />for the sale of two (2) Motorola Telemetry,systems which <br />the Board on November 21, 1983 declared no longer needed <br />by the Fire Department by the adoption of Resolution No. <br />25-1983. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded <br />by Mr. Hill and carried, the above request was approved. <br />APPROVE REQUEST OF SALVATION ARMY TO USE POLE <br />FOR TREE OF LIGHTS CAMPAIGN <br />In a letter to the Board, Mr.. John D. Miller, Tree of <br />Lights Chairman Salvation Army Advisory Board, 535 South <br />Carroll Street, South Bend, Indiana, requested permission <br />to use a pole located at the southeast corner of Main and <br />Monroe Streets for the purpose of constructing a facsimile <br />Christmas tree in conjunction with the annual Salvation <br />Army Tree of Lights campaign. The pole would be used to <br />string lights, each strand lit representing a higher <br />percentage of the.goal reached. All lights would be <br />strung high enough on the pole to prevent vandalism or <br />being in the pedestrian right-of-way. He stated that <br />although the pole now.sits outside the fenced in property <br />of the Salvation Army, all electrical connections would <br />be inside the property. Upon a motion made by Mr. <br />Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the above <br />request was approved subject to the filing of a Certificate <br />of Insurance in the amount .of $100,000.00 naming the City <br />of South Bend as an additional insured for this event. <br />REQUEST OF SAVE OUR JOBS COMMITTEE TO CONDUCT RALLY <br />ON RIVER BEND PLAZA - DECEMBER 17. 1983 REFERRED <br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Michael H. Matuszak, 1414 <br />Woodlawn Boulevard, South Bend, Indiana on behalf of the <br />SAVE OUR JOBS Committee requested permission to hold a <br />public meeting on plant closings- It is requested that <br />
