REGULAR MEETING <br />AUGUST 12, 1985 <br />APPROVE REQUEST OF HANSEL NEIGHBORHOOD SERVICE CENTER, INC. FOR <br />DESIGNATED HANDICAPPED PARKING SPACES <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting <br />and Police Department Traffic Division have reviewed the request <br />of Hansel Neighborhood Service Center to have designated <br />handicapped parking spaces in front of their Center at 1045 West <br />Washington Street, said request submitted to the Board on August <br />5, 1985, and recommend approval. Therefore, upon a motion made <br />by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Vance and carried, the <br />recommendation was accepted and the request approved. <br />APPROVE REQUEST OF PARK AVENUE NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION TO CLOSE <br />STREETS FOR TOUR OF HOMES - SEPTEMBER 15, 1985 <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting <br />and the Police Department Traffic Division have reviewed the <br />August 5, 1985, request of the Park Avenue Neighborhood <br />Association for street closures in conjunction with their Tour of <br />Homes, and recommend approval of the closure of all streets <br />requested except Riverside Drive. It was noted that the Bureau <br />will deliver the barricades needed to close the street and PANA <br />will be responsible for their placement and removal. Upon a <br />motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Ms. Barnard and <br />carried, the recommendation was accepted and the request <br />approved. <br />APPROVE REQUESTS FOR DESIGNATED HANDICAPPED PARKING SPACES: <br />- 618 SOUTH EDISON AVENUE <br />- 1221 SOUTH 27TH STREET <br />In a letter to the Board, Mrs. Chester Hunter, 618 South Edison <br />Avenue, South Bend, Indiana, advised that her husband is a <br />disabled war veteran with a leg injury and she has arthritis. <br />Because of their disabilities, they both have State of Indiana <br />handicapped license plates but are having difficulty parking in <br />front of their residence at 618 South Edison Avenue as they live <br />near a church. Mrs. Hunter requested that the parking space in <br />front of their home be designated a handicapped parking space. <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that this request has been reviewed by <br />the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and the Police Department <br />Traffic Division and they recommend approval. <br />Additionally, Dr. Gerald P. Myers, 3123 Mishawaka Avenue, South <br />Bend, Indiana, on behalf of his patient Mr. Pete Grabner, has <br />requested that the parking space in front of Mr. Grabner's <br />residence at 1221 South 27th Street, be designated as a <br />handicapped parking space. Dr. Myers advised that Mr. Grabner <br />suffered a CVA which has left him unable to walk by himself. Mr. <br />Leszczynski advised that the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and <br />the Police Department Traffic Division have reviewed this request <br />and they recommend approval. <br />Therefore, based on favorable recommendations on the two (2) <br />requests as described above, upon a motion made by Mr. <br />Leszczynski, seconded by Ms. Barnard and carried, the <br />recommendations were accepted and the requests approved. <br />APPROVE BLOCK PARTY REQUEST - 1500 BLOCK OF EAST WASHINGTON <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting <br />and the Police Department Traffic Division have reviewed the <br />request of Mr. James P. Carroll, 1505 East Washington Street, <br />South Bend, Indiana, to close Washington Street from Twyckenham <br />Drive to Esther Street on Saturday, August 31, 1985 from 5:00 <br />p.m. to 12:00 midnight for a neighborhood block party and <br />recommend approval. Approval, however, is subject to the <br />maintenance of a ten foot (10') clear and unobstructed lane at <br />either curb or down the center of the street for emergency <br />1 <br />1 <br />1 <br />
