REGULAR MEETING <br />JULY 8, 1985 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was convened at <br />9:30 a.m. on Monday, July 8, 1985, by President John E. <br />Leszczynski, with Mr. Leszczynski and Mr. Michael L. Vance <br />present. Also present was Assistant City Attorney Carolyn V. <br />Pfotenhauer. Board member Katherine G. Barnard was not in <br />attendance. <br />AGENDA ITEM STRICKEN <br />Due to the absence of Board member Katherine Barnard, and Mr. <br />Vance's abstinence from voting on matters of taxicab denials, upon <br />a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Vance and <br />carried, the matter of the Public Hearing regarding the denial of <br />a taxi drivers license for James Staggers, Jr., was stricken from <br />the agenda at this time and continued until July 15, 1985. <br />APPROVE MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Vance, seconded by Mr. Leszczynski, and <br />carried, the minutes of the July 1, 1985, regular meeting of the <br />Board were approved. <br />OPENING OF BIDS - RECONSTRUCTION OF ROOF AT FIRE STATION NO. 3 <br />(1805 MC KINLEY AVENUE) <br />This was the date set for receiving and opening of sealed bids for <br />the above referred to project. The Clerk tendered proofs of <br />publication of Notice in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri-County <br />News which were found to be sufficient. The following bids were <br />opened and publicly read: <br />MIDLAND ENGINEERING COMPANY <br />52369 U.S. 33 North <br />South Bend, Indiana 46637 <br />Bid was signed by John C. Steinmetz, President and Reginaldo <br />J. Gardini, Secretary, Non -Collusion Affidavit was in order and <br />a 5% Bid Bond was submitted. <br />BID: $16,985.00 (10 year roof guarantee) <br />ALTERNATE BID: 20 year roof guarantee - none available. <br />ALTERNATE GUARANTEE: If the City chooses Midland's 10 year <br />roofing guarantee rather than the Manufacturer's 10 year <br />guarantee, deduct $764.00. <br />OPTIONAL SURFACING: Midland pointed out that the Awaplan <br />System as specified will have laps in the heavy sheet which <br />will show from the street. For aesthetics they recomemnd <br />3-gallons of emulsion and white granules installed over the <br />completed membrane to achieve a monolithic white surfacing - <br />add $1,315.00 for this process. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Vance and <br />carried, the above bid was referred to the Fire Department for <br />review and recommendation. <br />OPENING OF OFFERS TO PURCHASE PROPERTY - 1616 SOUTH CARLISLE <br />STREET <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that this was the date set for the opening <br />of sealed offers for the purchase of the house located at 1616 <br />Carlisle Street. The Clerk tendered proofs of publication of <br />Notice in South Bend Tribune and the Tri-County News which were <br />found to be sufficient. It was noted that the request to handle <br />the selling of this property was submitted by the Bureau of <br />Housing on June 17, 1985.
