REGULAR MEETING JUNE 10, 1985 <br />APPROVE CONTRACTOR'S BOND <br />Mr. Melvin Humphrey, Engineering Department, recommended that the <br />Contractor's Bond for Dick Comer, d/b/a, Dick Comer Heating & Air - <br />Conditioning, Inc., 521 East 15th Street, Mishawaka, Indiana, be <br />approved retroactive to June 7, 1985. Upon a motion made by Mr. <br />Leszczynski, seconded by Ms. Barnard and carried, the above <br />Contractor's Bond was approved. <br />FILING OF STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORT <br />The report submitted to the Board indicated a total of one hundred <br />sixty-three (163) street light outages reported during the month <br />of May. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. <br />Vance and carried, the report as submitted was filed. <br />Ms. Beverlie J. Beck, President, South Bend Common Council, was <br />present and addressed the Board. She stated that she continues to <br />use the Police Department non -emergency phone number to turn in <br />street light outages and says that it is useless. She turned in <br />some more than a month ago and the lights are still not fixed. <br />Ms. Beck requested that the City should not pay for those lights <br />that are out. Citizens blame the City and not I & M. Ms. Beck <br />submitted a letter from a citizen asking why the lights are on <br />during the day on Miami Street. Mr. Leszczynski advised her that <br />the City does not pay for street light outages that are turned in <br />and are not fixed in twenty-four (24) hours. He also told Ms. <br />Beck that he would check into the outages that she reported. <br />FILING OF ENVIRONMENTAL CLEAN-UP OF LOTS REPORT <br />A report from the Department of Code Enforcement indicating a <br />total of one hundred fifty (150) properties cleaned from May 3, <br />1985 to May 7, 1985 was submitted. Upon a motion made by Mr. <br />Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Vance and carried, the report as <br />submitted was filed. <br />APPROVE CLAIMS <br />Mr. John Ferguson, Acting Executive Director, St. Joseph County <br />Job Training Program, submitted a list containing thirty (30) <br />claims and recommended approval. Additionally, Deputy City <br />Controller Carol M. Sanders submitted Claim Docket No. 12540 <br />through Claim Docket No. 12956 and recommended approval. Upon a <br />motion made by Mr. Vance, seconded by Ms. Barnard and carried, the <br />claims were approved and the reports as submitted were filed. <br />PRIVILEGE OF THE FLOOR: <br />REQUESTS FROM COUNCIL PRESIDENT BEVERLIE J. BECK <br />Ms. Beck advised the Board that there is a problem with the left <br />turn on green only at the intersection of Lincolnway East and <br />Ironwood. She stated that people who are unfamiliar with the <br />intersection turn from the other lane rather than the turn lane. <br />She requests that a sign be installed. <br />Also, Ms. Beck stated that heavy trucks on Jefferson Boulevard <br />continue to be a problem. <br />Ms. Beck requests that the "No Turn on Red" signs be removed from <br />the following locations: <br />Eastbound on Jefferson turning south on Main Street. <br />Lafayette and Jefferson, turning north from <br />Jefferson onto Lafayette. <br />Eastbound turning south at Lincolnway and Twyckenham. <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised her that he would look into these matters. <br />�7� <br />I <br />
