REGULAR MEETING

<br />Mishawaka, Indiana, advised that she is a member of a committee to
<br />organize a Women In Sports Day with the purpose of promoting the
<br />I.U.S.B.'s Women Studies Department. In that capacity, she is
<br />requesting permission to conduct a walk utilizing the East Race
<br />Walkway on Saturday, June 15, 1985 with staggered starting times
<br />between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. Participants may do either a
<br />single loop of 2.5 miles or a double loop of 5 miles, with the
<br />event being completed by 12:00 noon. Upon a motion made by Mr.
<br />Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Vance and carried, the above request
<br />was referred to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and the Police
<br />Department Traffic Division for review and recommendation.
<br />REQUEST OF JUSTICE AND PEACE CENTER TO CONDUCT THIRD ANNUAL ST.
<br />JOSEPH COUNTY CROP HUNGER WALK - APRIL 14, 1985, REFERRED
<br />In a letter to the Board, Ms. Rita M. Kopczynski, Justice and
<br />Peace Center, CROP Walk Arrangements Committee, 136 South Chapin
<br />Street, South Bend, Indiana, requested permission to conduct the
<br />6.2 mile walk for hunger on Sunday, April 14, 1985, beginning at
<br />2:00 p.m. utilizing City sidewalks as follows:
<br />Start at St. Joseph High School (Michigan and Angela
<br />Boulevard, west down Angela (north side) to Portage (cross
<br />Portage), Portage (west side) to Elwood (south side), Elwood
<br />to Wilbur (east side), Wilbur to LaPorte (west side), cross at
<br />LaPorte and Colfax to east side, LaPorte to Washington (north
<br />side), cross Washington (north to south), cross to east side
<br />of Chapin, Chapin south to Wayne (stop at Food Bank, Wayne and
<br />Chapin), Wayne to Scott, north on Scott, to Washington (south
<br />side), to Lafayette (west side) crossing at Colfax to north
<br />side of Colfax, Colfax (north side) across river east to Eddy
<br />Street, Eddy (west side) to Howard (cross to north side of
<br />Howard), Howard (north side) going west to Notre Dame Avenue
<br />(cross to west side), Notre Dame Avenue (west side) moving
<br />north to Angela Boulevard, Angela Boulevard (south side)
<br />moving west, crossing Michigan, Crossing Angela to north side
<br />at Michigan and Angela, return to St. Joseph High School.
<br />Ms. Kopczynski advised that walkers will use City sidewalks and
<br />adhere to stop lights and stop signs. As last year, they hope to
<br />have the assistance of the Civil Defense and volunteers to monitor
<br />the walkers and assist them if they are in need. They anticipate
<br />at least three (3) official rest -stops at local churches with
<br />approximately 800 individuals participating in the walk. Upon a
<br />motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried,
<br />the above request was referred to the Bureau of Traffic and
<br />Lighting and the Police Department Traffic Division for review and
<br />recommendation.
<br />APPROVE TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES
<br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and
<br />carried, the following two (2) traffic control devices were
<br />approved:
<br />1. REMOVE NO PARKING 2AM - 5AM - Central Business
<br />District Area.
<br />2. REVISE TO NO PARKING - 300 W. Jefferson. North
<br />side lst alley west of Lafayette to first drive
<br />east of alley. (Sight distance for exiting
<br />traffic).
<br />APPROVE LICENSE APPLICATIONS - RUBBISH AND GARBAGE
<br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that the following two (2) Rubbish and
<br />Garbage license applications have -been received:
