<br />REGULAR MEETING FEBRUARY 19, 1985
<br />AWARD BID - ONE (1) CLASS "A" TRIPLE COMBINATION MOTORIZED FIRE
<br />APPARATUS
<br />In a letter to the Board, Fire Chief Timothy J. Brassell advised
<br />that after careful review of the bids received on February 4,
<br />1985, for the above referred to equipment, it is the
<br />recommendation of the Fire Department that the bid be awarded to
<br />Peter Pirsch & Sons Company, 1308 35th Street, Kenosha, Wisconsin,
<br />in the amount of $102,928.93. Chief Brassell advised that the bid
<br />of Pirsch is the low bid without trade-in. Further, the Fire
<br />Department has decided to exercise its option and not include the
<br />trade-in as part of this purchase. In response to Mr. Vance's
<br />inquiry, Chief Brassell advised that current funds will be
<br />utilized for the purchase of this vehicle. Upon a motion made by
<br />Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the above
<br />recommendation was accepted and the bid awarded.
<br />APPROVE REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR RECEIPT OF BIDS - SALE OF
<br />ABANDONED VEHICLES
<br />Ms. Katherine Barnard, Director, Department of Code Enforcement,
<br />requested permission to advertise for the sale of approximately
<br />fourteen (14) abandoned vehicles, eleven (11) of which are valued
<br />at over $100.00 and all of which are being stored at Steve &
<br />Gene's Auto & Truck Salvage and Repair, 3109 South Gertrude
<br />Street, South Bend, Indiana. It was noted that all vehicles have
<br />been stored more than fifteen (15) days, identification checks had
<br />been run for auto theft and the owners and lienholders notified.
<br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and
<br />carried, the above request was approved and a date of March 4,
<br />1985, was established for the receiving and opening of sealed
<br />bids.
<br />APPROVE REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR RECEIPT OF BIDS - EAST BANK
<br />DEMOLITION - 1985 (SOUTH BEND SCREW PRODUCTS BUILDING)
<br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Joseph J. Pluta, P. E., Director,
<br />Division of Engineering, requested that the Board advertise for
<br />the receipt of bids for the above referred to project. Upon a
<br />motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Vance and carried,
<br />the above request was approved.
<br />FILING OF RESOLUTION AND NOTICE OF OFFICIAL ACTION OF INDIANA
<br />DEPARTMENT OF HIGHWAYS REGARDING SR 2 (WESTERN AVENUE) AND ARNOLD
<br />STREET - SIGNALS FLASH
<br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that the Indiana Department of Highways
<br />has submitted a Resolution and Notice of Official Action
<br />indicating that traffic signals shall be placed on a flashing
<br />operation at the intersection of SR 2 (Western Avenue) and Arnold
<br />Street in the City of South Bend, St. Joseph County, as follows:
<br />The traffic signals shall operate in the flashing mode during the
<br />hours of 11:15 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. and shall flash Amber to SR 2
<br />(Western Avenue) and Red to Arnold Street. Mr. Leszczynski
<br />advised that this Resolution and Notice of Official Action has
<br />been reviewed by the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and they have
<br />no objections. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by
<br />Mr. Hill and carried, the above Resolution and Notice of Official
<br />Action was filed.
<br />REQUEST OF BROADWAY CHRISTIAN PARISH TO CONDUCT "THE HUMAN RACE" -
<br />JUNE 29, 1985 REFERRED
<br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Larry Neiswender, Race Director,
<br />Broadway Christian Parish, 802 East Indiana, South Bend, Indiana,
<br />requested permission for the Broadway Christian Parish and the
<br />South Bend YMCA's sixth annual running of The Human Race to be run
<br />on Saturday, June 29, 1985. The route to be utilized is as
<br />follows:
