IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT
In a letter to the Board, Mr. Neil A. Shanahan, Manager, Bureau
of Public Construction recommended that the Board award the low
bid of Ziolkowski Construction, Inc., 1005 South Lafayette, Box
1106, South Bend, Indiana, in the amount of $845,615.50 which
includes Alternate No. 1 for the above referred to project.
Mr. Leszczynski advised that bids for the above referred to
project were opened by the Board on March 25, 1986. Mr.
Leszczynski further advised that in accordance with the award of
this bid, a Contract in said amount was being submitted for Board
approval. Upon a motion made by Ms. Barnard, seconded by Mr.
Leszczynski and carried, the above bid was awarded and the
Bond.
AWARD BID _- ONE (1) 10,500 GVWR REPLACEMENT CAB AND CHASSIS FOR
SOUTH BEND FIRE DEPARTMENT AMBULANCE
In a letter to the Board, Fire Chief Luther Taylor recommended
that the bid of Tom Wood Pontiac-GMC, Inc., 7550 East Washington
Street, Indianapolis, Indiana, in the amount of $15,690.00 be
awarded for one (1) 10,500 GVWR replacement cab and chassis for a
South Bend Fire Department ambulance. Assistant Chief Dan
Mirocha was present and advised the Board that Tom Wood
Pontiac-GMC met the specifications more closely than the only
other bidder, Gates Chevrolet, in three important areas. Gates
Chevrolet bid an alternator with 105 AMP's which is too small to
-- meet and supply the electrical needs of their ambulance. They
cannot furnish bucket seats. The bench seats, as proposed, make
it impractical and almost impossible to mount the radio system,
and all the emergency lighting and siren switches. Also, the
throttle is a manual adjustable pull type instead of the electric
throttle specified. Mr. Leszczynski advised that bids for the
above referred to project were opened by the Board on February
11, 1986. Upon a motion made by Ms. Barnard, seconded by Mr.
Vance and carried, the recommendation was accepted and the bid
awarded.
and met all bid specifications except for the specification
