S <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />MARCH 18, 1986 <br />1. N/W corner of Navarre & Michigan <br />2. S/W corner of Bartlett & Michigan <br />It was noted that the hospital has relocated its emergency room <br />and therefore new directional signs are required. Ms. Barnard <br />reiterated that the signs are directional signs to the emergency <br />room and the parking lot. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Ms. Barnard <br />and carried, the recommendations were accepted and the request <br />approved subject to Memorial Hospital securing permission from <br />the Indiana Department of Highways to erect signs at the above <br />mentioned two (2) locations as well as providing a $1,000,000.00 <br />Certificate of Insurance naming the City of South Bend as an <br />additional insured. <br />APPROVE RE <br />TO CONDUCT <br />In a lette <br />Resistance <br />Peace and <br />to conduct <br />Romero of <br />UEST OF WI' <br />WALK FOR <br />S FOR PEACE AND <br />- MARCH 24. 19 <br />THE PLEDGE OF RESISTANCE <br />r to the Board, Mr. Lester H. Bill, Pledge of <br />Committee, advised that on behalf of the Witness for <br />the Pledge of Resistance, he is requesting permission <br />a Walk for Peace in commemoration of Bishop Oscar <br />E1 Salvador who was assassinated on March 24, 1980. <br />The walk will be held on Monday, March 24, 1986 and will begin at <br />5:00 p.m. in front of the Statue of Liberty of the County <br />Courthouse located in the 100 block of Main Street. <br />Approximately one hundred (100) individuals will participate in <br />the walk and each will carry a white wooden cross bearing the <br />actual name of a person recently assassinated in El Salvador. <br />From the Statue of Liberty, the procession will move north to <br />LaSalle Avenue, turn right (east) and walk to Michigan Street. <br />At Michigan Street the procession would turn left (north) and <br />follow Michigan Street northward and continue when it becomes <br />Highway 33 and proceed to the Holy Cross Junior Campus on Highway <br />33. The individuals participating in the walk will use the <br />sidewalks only and not the streets and will obey all traffic <br />signs and signals. The plan is to set the crosses in the ground <br />at Holy Cross Junior College to be followed by a religious <br />service in the campus church. Mr. Bill stated that they are a <br />religious, interdenominational people, non-violent and committed <br />to peace. <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting <br />and the Police Department Traffic Division have reviewed this <br />request and recommend approval. Therefore, upon a motion made by <br />Ms. Barnard, seconded by Mr. Leszczynski and carried, the request <br />as submitted was approved. <br />APPROVE TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES <br />Upon a motion made by Ms. Barnard, seconded by Mr. Leszczynski <br />and carried, the following four (4) traffic control devices were <br />approved: <br />1. REMOVAL OF NO PARKING, REVISED TO 2-HOUR PARKING <br />6 AM - 6 PM - 500 N. Michigan, North one half <br />block. (Seasonal Signs). <br />2. REMOVAL OF NO PARKING, REVISED TO OPEN PARKING - <br />300 block Lamonte Terrace, South side. <br />(Seasonal Signs). <br />3. REMOVAL OF 2-HOUR PARKING 6 AM - 6 PM - West side <br />of 400 N. Michigan, South 1/2 block. (Requested <br />by Councilman Taylor and businesses). <br />4. NEW INSTALLATION, STOP SIGN - On Bowman @ Clyde. <br />(Uncontrolled "T"). <br />1 <br />
