12 <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />JANUARY 14, 1986 <br />Upon a motion made by Ms. Barnard, seconded by Mr. Leszczynski <br />and carried, the recommendations as submitted by Mr. Vance were <br />approved and the proposals awarded. <br />REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR THE RECEIPT OF BIDS - ONE (1) 10,500 <br />GVWR CHASSIS FOR REPLACEMENT OF ONE AMBULANCE CHASSIS <br />In a letter to the Board, Fire Chief Luther Taylor requested that <br />the Board advertise for the receipt of bids for one (1) 10,500 <br />GVWR chassis for replacement of one (1) ambulance chassis which <br />is now in service as Medic II. He stated that it is anticipated <br />that the price of the new chassis and the cost of changing the <br />modular from Medic II to the new chassis will be approximately <br />$20,000.00. Assistant Chief Dan Mirocha advised that the chassis <br />to be replaced is a 1979 chassis with approximately 61,000 miles. <br />The new chassis will be purchased through EMS Capital Improvement <br />Funds. Upon a motion made by Ms. Barnard, seconded by Mr. Vance <br />and carried, the request as submitted was approved. <br />REQUEST FOR SIX (6) MONTH EXTENSION TO LOCATE TRAILER - 1612 <br />ROBINSON STREET REFERRED <br />Mr. Mel Whittaker, 1707 Caroline Street, South Bend, Indiana, <br />advised that on July 1, 1985, the Board of Public Works, approved <br />his request to temporarily locate his trailer at 1612 Robinson <br />Street. He is, at this time, requesting a six (6) month <br />extension of that approval as he is assisting the property owner <br />in the building of a structure on the premises. Upon a motion <br />made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Ms. Barnard and carried, the <br />request was referred to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and <br />the Building Department and Fire Department for review and <br />recommendation. <br />APPROVE REQUEST TO CONDUCT MARCH IN OBSERVANCE OF MARTIN LUTHER <br />KING DAY - JANUARY 20, 1986 <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that Mr. Joseph J. Pluta, Director, <br />Division of Engineering, and Captain Edward I. Friend, Police <br />Department Traffic Division, have reviewed the above referred to <br />request submitted to the Board on December 31, 1985 and recommend <br />approval. Mr. Pluta advised that participants must stay on the <br />sidewalk and obey all traffic signals. The Police Department <br />will not provide an escort for the march, but will monitor the <br />event. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Ms. <br />Barnard and carried, the recommendation was accepted and the <br />request approved. <br />APPROVE REQUEST OF SOUTH BEND YOUTH SYMPHONY FOR TRAFFIC <br />ASSISTANCE FOR YOUTH CONCERT - MAY 1 1986 <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that Mr. Joseph J. Pluta, Director, <br />Division of Engineering and Captain Edward I. Friend, Police <br />Department Traffic Division have reviewed the request referred to <br />above and recommend approval as the Bureau of Traffic and <br />Lighting will handle the traffic control. Therefore, upon a <br />motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Ms. Barnard and <br />carried, the recommendation was accepted and the request <br />approved. <br />APPROVE REQUEST TO CONDUCT WINTER CELEBRATION 5K RUN - FEBRUARY <br />1, 1986 <br />Pursuant to the request submitted to the Board on December 17, <br />1985, to conduct the above referred to event, Mr. Joseph J. <br />Pluta, Director, Division of Engineering and Captain Edward I. <br />Friend, Police Department Traffic Division, advised that they <br />have reviewed the request and recommend approval. It was noted <br />that the route originally submitted with the request has been <br />revised and the new route is as follows: <br />
