65 <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />SEPTEMBER 8, 1987 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was convened at <br />9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 1987, by President John E. <br />Leszczynski, with Mr. Leszczynski and Mr. Michael L. Vance <br />present. Board member Patricia E. DeClercq was not in <br />attendance. Also present was Chief Deputy City Attorney Thomas <br />Bodnar. <br />APPROVE MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Vance and <br />carried, the minutes of the September 1, 1987, regular meeting of <br />the Board were approved. <br />APPROVE INDEMNITY AGREEMENT - UNIVERSITY OF NOTRE DAME <br />Ms. Eugenia Schwartz, City Attorney, was present and advised that <br />The South Bend Bicentennial Planning Committee has reserved the <br />Athletic and Convocation Center at the University of Notre Dame <br />on -Thursday, September 17, 1987 for a performance by the Air <br />Force Tops in Blue. Therefore, the appropriate Indemnity <br />Agreement with the University of Notre Dame has been submitted <br />for approval. Upon a motion made by Mr. Vance, seconded by Mr. <br />Leszczynski and carried, the Agreement as submitted was approved <br />and executed. <br />APPROVE REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR RECEIPT OF BIDS - DE-ICING <br />MATERIALS FOR THE STREET DEPARTMENT <br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Bill Penn, Director, Division of <br />Transportation, requested that the Board advertise for the <br />receipt of bids for the following de-icing materials for the <br />Street Department: <br />1. Sodium Chloride 12,000 tons <br />2. Liquid Calcium Chloride 100,000 gals. <br />3. Calcium Chloride Sand 5,000 tons <br />4. Calcium Chloride Slag Sand 5,000 tons <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Vance and <br />carried, the above request was approved. <br />APPROVE REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR RECEIPT OF BIDS - SALE OF <br />ABANDONED VEHICLES <br />Mrs. Patricia E. DeClercq, Director, Department of Code <br />Enforcement, requested permission to advertise for the sale of <br />approximately fifteen (15) abandoned vehicles, which are being <br />stored at Steve & Gene's Auto & Truck Salvage and Repair, 3109 <br />South Gertrude Street, South Bend, Indiana. It was noted that <br />all vehicles have been stored more than fifteen (15) days, <br />identification checks had been run for auto theft and the owners <br />and lienholders notified. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, <br />seconded by Mr. Vance and carried, the above request was approved <br />and a date of September 22, 1987 was established for the <br />receiving and opening of sealed bids. <br />REQUEST OF INDIANA BELL TELEPHONE FOR PICK-UP(DROP-OFF SPACE IN <br />FRONT OF 307 SOUTH MAIN STREET - SEPTEMBER 17, 1987 - REFERRED <br />In a letter to the Board, the Indiana Bell Telephone Company <br />SCC(NAC QWL Committee, 1st Floor, 307 South Main Street, South <br />Bend, Indiana, requested that a space large enough to accommodate <br />a Transpo Bus be reserved in front of the Indiana Bell entrance <br />at 307 South Main Street on September 17, 1987 from 8:00 a.m. to <br />7:00 p.m. It was noted that a Transpo Bus will be shuttling <br />Indiana Bell Employees to and from a Safety Fair every twenty <br />(20) minutes. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by <br />Mr. Vance and carried, the request was referred to the <br />appropriate City departments and bureaus for review and <br />recommendation. <br />
