198 <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />JUNE 30, 1987 <br />APPROVE TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICE <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. DeClercq <br />and carried, the following one (1) traffic control device was <br />approved: <br />1. NEW INSTALLATION, HANDICAP PARKING - 200 S. Main - <br />East side North 1/2 block (Federal Building) <br />July 4th & 5th (Temporary). <br />FILING OF ENVIRONMENTAL CLEAN-UP OF LOTS REPORT <br />A report from the Department of Code Enforcement indicating a <br />total of one -hundred thirty-five (135) properties cleaned from <br />June 22, 1987 to June 26, 1987, was submitted. Upon a motion <br />made by Mrs. DeClercq, seconded by Mr. Vance and carried, the <br />report as submitted was filed. <br />APPROVE CLAIMS <br />Mr. John W. Ferguson, Executive Director, St. Joseph County Job <br />Training Program, submitted a list containing eighty-four (84) <br />claims and recommended approval. Additionally, Deputy City <br />Controller Carol M. Sanders submitted Claim Docket No. 10654 <br />through Claim Docket No. 10892 and recommended approval. Upon a <br />motion made by Mr. Vance, seconded by Mrs. DeClercq and carried, <br />the claims were approved and the reports as submitted were filed. <br />CONCERNS REGARDING USE OF SKATEBOARDS IN DOWNTOWN AREA <br />Mrs. Patricia E. DeClercq, Director, Department of Code <br />Enforcement, informed the Board that her office has received <br />complaints regarding the use of skateboards in the downtown <br />area. She stated that her office will be monitoring the <br />situation and looking into what the City can do to protect <br />pedestrians utilizing the sidewalks in the downtown area as well <br />as looking into what, if anything, the Board of Public Works <br />should be doing regarding this problem. Further, the existing <br />City ordinance regulating bicycle traffic will be reviewed with <br />the possibility of amending said ordinance to include <br />skateboards. Mrs. DeClercq stated that the City does have an <br />obligation to look into the problems that are being created by <br />the use of skateboards on the public right-of-way in the downtown <br />area and it is anticipated that within the next two (2) to three <br />(3) weeks some conclusions will be reached as to what the next <br />step should be in regards to use of skateboards on the public <br />right-of-way. <br />ADJOURNMENT <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, upon a <br />motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Vance and <br />carried, the meeting adjourned at 9:52 a.m. <br />Joh E.
