l'9 2
REGULAR MEETING
JUNE 23, 1987
PRIVILEGE OF THE FLOOR:
QUESTIONS AND CONCERNS RAISED REGARDING ST
REGIONAL BASEBALL STADIUM AND TRAFFIC SIG
Mr. Ken Donnelly, 2605 Frederickson, Sout
I
h
Mr. Donnelly's questions regarding the baseball stadium were as
follows:
1. When will the Contract for the minor league franchise
be available for review by the public?
2. Are the scoreboard plans available for review. He
is interested in the features of the scoreboard.
3. Is it true that sod instead of seed was placed in some
of the grassy areas outside of the stadium at an
additional cost of $20,000.00?
4. What entity of the City will be applying for a beer
license before the Alcohol Beverage Commission?:
- City
- Park Board
- Board of Public Works
- Redevelopment
5. Will that license and right be transferred to the owners
of the minor league franchise?
Mr. Leszczynski advised Mr. Donnelly that answers to his
questions will be forthcoming. However, in regards to the
question regarding the scoreboard, Mr. Leszczynski advised that
the scoreboard will be installed the week of June 29, 1987. In
regards to Mr. Donnelly's concern regarding the placement of sod
instead of seed in the grassy areas around the stadium at an
additional cost of $20,000.00, Mr. Leszczynski advised that it
was too late in the season to plant seed and that issue was true
but he was uncertain of the additional cost involved. Further,
Mr. Leszczynski advised that concrete was poured in the areas
around the stadium where individuals will be walking.
Mr. Donnelly's questions for the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting
were in regard to the possibility of installing a traffic light
at the intersection of Lincolnway West and Kaley Street. Mr.
Donnelly stated that Councilman Eugenia Braboy has advised him
that she has been working on this request and was advised that
Lincolnway West is U.S. 20 and the installation of a traffic
signal was a decision that needed to be made by the Indiana
Department of Highways should the appropriate traffic count
substantiate such installation. He has been advised that the
count conducted revealed that the signal was not warranted and
wanted the Board and the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting to know
that that intersection has become and is very dangerous.
Secondly, Mr. Donnelly stated that he is concerned about the
traffic signal at Lincolnway West and Blaine Streets. Again, he
has been advised by Councilman Eugenia Braboy that the signal is
needed as on Sunday mornings traffic is heavy due to church
services at a church located on Blaine Street. He wondered if
the intersection could somehow be straightened out as it
currently has a zig-zag effect, if the light could be traffic
controlled to make the traffic flow smoother, if perhaps the
Blaine Street side could be activated or the light removed
totally as it does not serve a useful purpose.
1
1
1
