ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING JANUARY 4, 2016 Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana met in the Council Chambers of the County -City Building on Monday January 4, 2016, at 7:30 p.m. The meeting was called to order by Councilmember Tim Scott and the Invocation and Pledge to the Flag were given. ROLL CALL COUNCILMEMBERS: Present: Tim Scott Regina Williams- Preston Randy Kelly Josephine Broden Oliver J. Davis John Voorde Absent: David Varner (excused) Gavin Ferlic (excused) Karen L. White (excused) OTHERS PRESENT: Kathleen Cekanski- Farrand Kareemah Fowler Alkeyna Aldridge Jennifer Coffman Adrian Rodriguez Joseph Molnar 1 st District 2nd District Yd District 4th District 6th District At -Large 5th District At -Large At -Large Council Attorney City Clerk Deputy Chief Deputy Legal Research Assistant Clerk Executive Assistant ELECTION OF COUNCIL PRESIDENT FOR 2016 Councilmember John Voorde nominated Councilmember Tim Scott for the office of President. Councilmember Oliver Davis seconded the motion. The motion carried by a roll call vote of six (6) ayes. ELECTION OF COUNCIL VICE - PRESIDENT FOR 2016 Councilmember Regina Williams Preston nominated Councilmember Oliver Davis for the office of Vice - President. Councilmember Randy Kelly seconded the motion. The motion was defeated by a roll call vote of three (3) ayes and three (3) nays (Councilmember Tim Scott, Councilmember John Voorde, and Councilmember Josephine Broden). Councilmember John Voorde nominated Councilmember Karen White for the office of Vice President. Councilmember Tim Scott seconded the motion. The motion was defeated by a roll call vote of four (4) ayes and two (2) nays (Councilmember Regina Williams Preston and Councilmember Oliver Davis). With no one having a majority of five (5) votes the office of Vice - President will remain vacant until the next Common Council. Councilmember Oliver Davis made a motion to hold the election at the 7:30 meeting on January 1 lth, 2015. Councilmember John Voorde seconded the motion which carried by a voice vote of six (6) ayes. ELECTION OF CHAIRPERSON COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE FOR 2016 Councilmember John Voorde nominated Councilmember Gavin Ferlic for the office of Chairperson, Committee of the Whole. Councilmember Randy Kelly seconded the motion. The motion carried by a roll call vote of five (5) ayes and one (1) nay (Councilmember Oliver Davis).
