i <br />REGULAR MEETING MAY 19, 1987 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was convened at <br />9:36 a.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 1987, by President John E. <br />Leszczynski, with Mr. Leszczynski, Mrs. Patricia E. DeClercq <br />and Mr. Michael L. Vance present. Also present was Chief Deputy <br />City Attorney Thomas Bodnar. <br />AGENDA ITEM ADDED <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Vance, seconded by Mrs. DeClercq and <br />carried, a request to advertise for the receipt of bids for the <br />remodeling of the Computer Aided Dispatch Room at the Central <br />Police Station was added to the agenda. <br />APPROVE MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING <br />Upon a motion made by Mrs. DeClercq, seconded by Mr. Vance, and <br />carried, the minutes of the May 12, 1987, regular meeting of the <br />Board were approved. <br />PUBLIC HEARING AND FAVORABLE RECOMMENDATION - ALLEY VACATION: 1 <br />N/S ALLEY W. OF SUNNYSIDE RUNNING FROM WAYNE ST. SOUTH TO THE <br />INTERSECTING E/W ALLEY <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that this was the date set for the <br />Board's Public Hearing on the proposed vacation of the following <br />alley: <br />The lst north/south alley west of Sunnyside running from <br />Wayne Street south to the intersecting east/west alley for a <br />total distance of 112 feet, more or less. <br />It was noted that this Public Hearing is being held in order for <br />the Board to submit a recommendation to the Common Council <br />concerning the Vacation Petition filed by Dr. & Mrs. Stephan G. <br />Thompson, 1210 East Wayne Street South and Mr. and Mrs. Gregg <br />Brasseur, 1206 East Wayne Street South. It was noted that Dr. & <br />Mrs. Thompson and Mr. & Mrs. Brasseur are the only two (2) <br />abutting property owners affected by this proposed vacation. <br />Mr. Gregg Brasseur, 1206 E. Wayne Street South, South Bend, <br />Indiana, Petitioner, was present and advised the Board that the <br />vacation of the above referred to alley is being requested in <br />order to prohibit individuals from driving through the alley at a <br />high rate of speed and to insure the safety of their children. <br />Dr. Stephan Thompson, also a Petitioner, 1210 East Wayne Street <br />South, South Bend, Indiana, was present and stated that thefts to <br />their properties have occurred with individuals trying to get <br />into their yards. For this reason and also for the safety of the <br />children, the vacation is being requested. <br />There being no one else present wishing to speak either for or <br />against the proposed alley vacation, and no written objections <br />having been filed with the Board, the Public Hearing on this <br />matter was closed. <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that favorable comments have been <br />received from the Engineering Department, Area Plan Commission <br />and the Department of Economic Development concerning this <br />proposed alley vacation. <br />Therefore, upon a motion made by Mr. Vance, seconded by Mrs. <br />DeClercq and carried, the Clerk was instructed to forward to the <br />Common Council a favorable recommendation on the above referred <br />to alley vacation subject to any and all utility easements. <br />PUBLIC HEARING AND FAVORABLE RECOMMENDATION - ALLEY VACATION: 1ST <br />E/W ALLEY SO. FROM KOSCIUSZKO TO THE 1ST <br />NIS INTERSECTING ALLEY <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that this was the date set for the <br />Board's Public Hearing on a proposed alley vacation described as <br />follows: <br />
