139 <br />REGULAR MEETING MAY 12, 1987 <br />REQUEST OF STUDEBAKER DRIVER'S CLUB TO USE COLFAX PARKING GARAGE <br />FOR SWAP MEET - AUGUST 2-4, 1988 - REFERRED <br />Ms. Mikki Dobski, Director, Community Affairs, advised the Board <br />that the Michiana Chapter of the Studebaker Driver's Club will be <br />the host of a week-long 24th Studebaker Drivers Club <br />International Meet from August 1-8, 1988. <br />As part of this event, the Driver's Club has requested permission <br />to utilize one-half of the third floor, and all of the fourth, <br />fifth and sixth floors of the Colfax Parking Garage on August <br />2-4, 1988 for their swap meet. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. DeClercq <br />and carried, the request was referred to the appropriate City <br />departments and bureaus for review and recommendation. <br />APPROVE REQUEST OF BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA FOR TRAFFI <br />ASSISTANCE MAY 16, 1987 <br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Wayne Doughty, Program Director, <br />Northern Indiana Council Boy Scouts of America, 1433 Northside <br />Boulevard, South Bend, Indiana, advised that on May 16, 1987, the <br />Boy Scouts will be holding its Scout-O-Rama at the 4-H <br />Fairgrounds. He stated that this event is a booth type show that <br />should generate 5,000 to 10,000 persons to the event. Therefore, <br />he requested traffic control assistance from 11:30 a.m. to 7:00 <br />p.m. at the intersection of Ironwood and Jackson and at Gate #1. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. DeClercq <br />and carried, the request was approved. <br />REQUEST TO PURCHASE CITY -OWNED PROPERTY AT 134 LIBERTY STREET - <br />REFERRED <br />In a letter to the Board, Ms. Jonelle Fultz, 2903 Western Avenue, <br />South Bend, Indiana, indicated that she was interested in <br />purchasing the City -owned property at 134 Liberty Street, South <br />Bend, Indiana. Upon a motion made by Mr. Vance, seconded by Mrs. <br />DeClercq and carried, the above request was referred to the <br />necessary City departments and bureaus for a determination as to <br />whether or not the City need retain the lot for any reason. <br />REQUEST FOR DESIGNATED HANDICAPPED PARKING SPACE AT 502 NORTH <br />WALNUT STREET - REFERRED <br />Mr. John E. Paradic, 502 North Walnut Street, South Bend, <br />Indiana, requested that the parking space in front of his <br />residence be designated as a handicapped parking space. Upon a <br />motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. DeClercq and <br />carried, the request was referred to the necessary City <br />departments and bureaus for review and recommendation. <br />REQUEST OF HABITAT FOR HUMANITY FOR CONVEYANCE OF CITY -OWNED <br />PROPERTY AT 606 AND 608 E. PENNSYLVANIA - REFERRED <br />In a letter to the Board, Mrs. Theresa C. Tyler, President, Board <br />of Directors, Habitat for Humanity of St. Joseph County, 1414 <br />East Wayne Street, South Bend, Indiana, requested that the City <br />convey to Habitat two (2) City -owned lots located at 606 and 608 <br />E. Pennsylvania for the purpose of erecting and renovating a home <br />for an eligible low income family. <br />Mrs. Tyler further advised that Habitat for Humanity is a <br />non-profit Christian housing ministry which works in partnership <br />with people in need to improve the conditions in which they are <br />forced to live. Habitat challenges people of faith to provide <br />the initial capital, through gifts and non -interest loans, to <br />build or renovate simple decent homes for the inadequately <br />sheltered. Houses are sold at no profit with a no interest <br />mortgage repaid over a fifteen (15) to twenty-five (25) year <br />period. The house payments are recycled to build more houses <br />
