REGULAR_MEETING APRIL 4. 1988 <br />is requesting permission to solicit Proposals for debt collection <br />services for past due ambulance accounts. Upon a motion made by <br />Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. DeClercq and carried, the <br />request was approved. <br />REQUEST OF ST. JOSEPH COUNTY MEMORIAL SOCIETY TO CLOSE WASHINGTON <br />STREET FOR MEMORIAL DAY ACTIVITIES - MAY 30, 1988 - REFERRED <br />In a letter to the Board, Ms. Virginia Hanson, Secretary, St. <br />Joseph County Memorial Society, 19459 Orchard Street, South Bend, <br />Indiana, requested permission to close Washington Street between <br />Main and Lafayette Boulevard for approximately one (1) hour on <br />Monday, May 30, 1988 beginning at 2:00 p.m. in conjunction with <br />Memorial Day activities to be conducted in front of the Sailors <br />and Soldiers monument on the Courthouse lawn. Upon a motion made <br />by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. DeClercq and carried, the <br />above request was referred to the appropriate City Departments <br />and bureaus for review and recommendation. <br />APPROVE REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR THE RECEIPT OF BIDS - STREET <br />MATERIALS FOR 1988 <br />Mr. John E. Leszczynski, Director, Public Works, requested that <br />the Board advertise for the receipt of bids for street materials <br />for 1988. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by <br />Mrs. DeClercq and carried, the request was approved. <br />In response to questions from the news media regarding street <br />materials, Mr. Leszczynski advised that specifications are being <br />prepared for street materials which contain some new items not <br />requested in previous years including contractual paving. He <br />further stated that the paving program in 1987 was an exceptional <br />program costing approximately $980,000.00. He advised that this <br />year's program is expected to be about two-thirds of that program <br />but will be more in line with the programs of previous years. In <br />response to questions regarding this year's alley program, Mr. <br />Leszczynski stated that it has not yet been determined the extent <br />of this year's alley program but the alley equipment will be used <br />whenever and where ever possible. <br />APPROVE TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICE <br />Upon a motion made by Mrs. DeClercq, seconded by Ms. Humphreys <br />and carried, the following one (1) traffic control device was <br />approved: <br />1. REMOVAL OF 15 MINUTE PARKING 6 A.M. - 6 P.M. - <br />1109 Western. (Hojnacki Sausage Store - <br />Business Closed). <br />FILING OF APPLICATION FOR BIDDER QUALIFICATION/CERTIFICATION <br />Upon a motion made by Mrs. DeClercq, seconded by Mr. Leszczynski <br />and carried, the following application for bidder qualification <br />was accepted for filing and referred to the appropriate City <br />departments for review and recommendation: <br />1. Ziker Shannon Corporation <br />1201 Northside Boulevard <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />APPROVE CONTRACTORS AND EXCAVATION BONDS <br />Mr. Melvin Humphrey, Engineering Department, recommended that the <br />following Contractors and Excavation Bonds be approved as <br />follows: <br />CONTRACTORS <br />- D & B Concrete and Excavation <br />d/b/a Debee Construction Eff. 3/30/88 <br />- Papczynski Construction, Inc. Eff. 4/4/88 <br />
