Mai <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />MARCH 28, 1988 <br />Mr. Ryder further stated that Yellow Cab makes this request <br />pursuant to Section 4-61-m of the Municipal Code and in regard to <br />Part 2 of that subsection, advised that Yellow Cab wishes to <br />maintain two (2) taxicabs on this stand. He also stated that all <br />of the taxicabs are equipped with two-way radios. <br />The letter from Mr. Ryder further advised that Yellow Cab feels <br />that this stand would be consistent with public convenience and <br />necessity. Further, he stated that the South Bend White Sox <br />organization contacted them to request cab service for their <br />patrons. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. DeClercq <br />and carried, the request was referred to the appropriate City <br />Departments and bureaus for review and recommendation. <br />REQUEST TO CONDUCT "WOMEN CLAIMING THE NIGHT MARCH FOR VICTIM'S <br />RIGHTS" MARCH AND RALLY - APRIL 21 1988 - REFERRED <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that the Board is in receipt of a request <br />from Mr. John Marnocha advising that the week of April 17-23, <br />1988 has been proclaimed as National Victim's Rights Week. In <br />conjunction with various activities planned for that week, a <br />steering committee, comprised of private citizens and <br />representatives from the Campus Alliance for Rape Elimination, <br />the National Organization for Women, the St. Joseph County <br />Prosecutor's office, the IUSB Women's Studies Program, the YWCA <br />and the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, is in <br />the process of planning a community -wide march and rally. It has <br />been named "Women Claiming the Night March for Victim's Rights" <br />and will be held on April 21, 1988 from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. <br />Mr. Marnocha advised that the group has planned to meet at the <br />St. Joseph County Courthouse, in the area between the old <br />courthouse and the County -City Building at 7:00 p.m., to organize <br />the marchers. From that location the march, which they <br />anticipate will involve between 200 to 300 persons, will proceed <br />along the following route: <br />Begin at Lafayette Boulevard at the Courthouse, proceed to <br />LaSalle, east on LaSalle to Main Street, south on Main Street <br />to Western Avenue, east on Western Avenue to St. Joseph <br />Street, north on St. Joseph Street to Jefferson Boulevard and <br />west on Jefferson to Lafayette Boulevard to the Courthouse for <br />a distance of 1.4 miles. <br />Mr. Marnocha further advised that the march is expected to begin <br />at 7:30 p.m. and take no more than one (1) hour. At the <br />conclusion of the march, a rally is planned at the march assembly <br />site (inside the County -City Building in case of rain), to which <br />several local civic and political leaders will speak. There will <br />also be music and a candle -light vigil to close the rally. <br />Although it is hoped that all activities would have ended by 9:00 <br />p.m., it is anticipated that the activities will end by 10:00 <br />p.m. In addition, the group has secured an insurance policy in <br />the amount of $500,000.00. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. DeClercq <br />and carried, the above request was referred to the appropriate <br />City departments and bureaus for review and recommendation. <br />REQUEST TO CONDUCT ETHNIC FESTIVAL PARADE AND BIKE RACE - JULY 2, <br />1988 - REFERRED <br />In a Memorandum to the Board, Ms. Mikki Dobski, Director, Office <br />of Community Affairs, requested permission to hold the annual <br />Ethnic Festival Parade and Bike Race on Saturday, July 2, 1988. <br />The following new routes have been submitted for consideration: <br />
