REGULAR MEETING FEBRUARY 15, 1988 submitted a request on behalf of Instant Copy to install an entrance canopy which will project over the public right-of-way at 129 North Main Street. At that time, the diagram and dimensions submitted with the request were referred to the appropriate City departments and bureaus for review and recommendation. Based on a review of those plans, the Building Department advised that a horizontal clearance between a canopy and curb line shall not be less than two (2) feet. This is to allow a car door to swing open and let people exit. The drawing originally submitted indicated one (1) foot. Also, if the canopy projects more than two-thirds the distance from the property line to the curb line, than twelve (12) feet above ground or pavement below must be maintained. If less than two-thirds only eight (8) feet is required. The drawing submitted shows more than two-thirds between the building line and curb and eight (8) foot clearance. Therefore, it must be twelve (12) feet or the length of the canopy must be shortened. It was noted that City Awning was advised of the above informa- tion received from the Building Department and subsequently submitted a new diagram and revised sketch indicating the projection to be two (2) feet from the curb line. Also, the clear height is now eight (8) feet. Mr. Jack A. Mathews, Building Commissioner, now advises that he has reviewed the revised plan and it is recommended for approval at this time. It was further noted that the City Attorney's office will prepare the appropriate Indemnification Agreement required for the placement of the canopy in the public right-of-way. Therefore, upon a motion made by Mrs. DeClercq, seconded by Ms. Humphreys and carried, the recommendation was accepted and the request approved subject to the appropriate Indemnification Agreement being executed by Instant Copy of South Bend. REJECT BIDS FOR JANITORIAL SERVICES AT THE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND THREE (3) POLICE SUBSTATIONS Mr. Leszczynski advised that the Board is in receipt of a letter from Police Chief Charles T. Hurley advising that the Police Department has reviewed the two (2) bids received by the Board on February 8, 1988 for the above referred to services and it is the recommendation of the Department at this time that both bids be rejected. Chief Hurley stated that the rejection of these bids is based on budgetary considerations and a re-evaluation of their needs in the area of janitorial services. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. DeClercq and carried, the recommendation was accepted and the bids rejected. REQUEST OF FAITH UNITED METHODIST CHURCH TO ERECT CHURCH INFORMATION SIGNS IN THE PUBLIC RIGHT-OF-WAY - REFERRED In a letter to the Board, Mr. James Luccki, Chairman of Trustees, Faith United Methodist Church, 802 East Ewing, South Bend, Indiana, requested permission to place three (3) directional signs in the public right-of-way at Fellows and Ewing, High and Calvert and Miami and Ewing Streets. Mr. Luccki submitted with this request photographs of the signs he is requesting permission to erect. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. DeClercq and carried, the request was referred to the appropriate City departments and bureaus for review and recommendation.
