Owl <br />REGULAR MEETING FEBRUARY 1, 1988 <br />ACCEPT AND APPROVE QUIT CLAIM DEED - ACCEPTANCE OF LAND FROM <br />NORFOLK AND WESTERN RAILWAY COMPANY (INDIANA AVENUE EXTENSION) <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that the Norfolk and Western Railway <br />Company has submitted a Quit Claim Deed for property which the <br />City acquired in conjunction with the extension of Indiana <br />Avenue. Mr. Leszczynski further advised that the Indiana Avenue <br />extension project was completed last year and the railroad is now <br />completing the paperwork on the transaction. Therefore, upon a <br />motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. DeClercq and <br />carried, the Quit Claim Deed as submitted was accepted and <br />approved. <br />APPROVE STATE - LOCAL PUBLIC AGENCY AGREEMENT (LOGAN STREET <br />WIDENING PROJECT - NORTH OF MC KINLEY) <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that Mr. R. E. Wheeler, Area Engineer, <br />Division of Local Assistance, State of Indiana, Indiana <br />Department of Highways, 100 North Senate Avenue, Indianapolis, <br />Indiana, has submitted to the Board for approval a State - Local <br />Public Agency Agreement for the widening of Logan Street from <br />McKinley to Edison and Logan (Hickory) Street at Edison. Mr. <br />Leszczynski further advised that the cost of this project is <br />$2,236,000.00. He informed the Board that bids for the work on <br />this portion of the project will be taken by the State in March <br />or April of this year and that the south portion of this project <br />was bid earlier this year with construction to begin soon. <br />Mr. Leszczynski stated that seventy-five per cent (75%) of the <br />contract amount will be paid for with Federal funds, with the <br />City of South Bend obligated to pay twelve and one-half per cent <br />(12 1/2%) and the City of Mishawaka to pay twelve and one-half <br />per cent (12 1/2%) of the contract amount. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Ms. Humphreys <br />and carried, the Agreement as submitted was approved and <br />executed. <br />APPROVE REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR THE RECEIPT OF BIDS - <br />APPROXIMATELY FIFTEEN (15) NEW MARKED VEHICLES FOR THE 1988 <br />POLICE VEHICLE FLEET <br />In a letter to the Board, Police Chief Charles T. Hurley <br />requested that the Board advertise for the receipt of bids for <br />the 1988 police vehicle fleet. Chief Hurley advised that the <br />Department will seek to purchase a minimum of fifteen (15) marked <br />police vehicles depending on the cost per unit bids. Mrs. <br />DeClercq inquired if the bid specifications would indicate that <br />the total number of vehicles purchased would depend on the unit <br />amounts indicated in the bids received. Mr. Leszczynski advised <br />that the bid specifications would indicate that approximately <br />fifteen (15) vehicles would be purchased with that number <br />depending on the unit prices bid. Therefore, upon a motion made <br />by Mrs. DeClercq, seconded by Ms. Humphreys and carried, the <br />request was approved. <br />APPROVE REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR RECEIPT OF BIDS - SALE OF <br />ABANDONED VEHICLES <br />Mrs. Patricia E. DeClercq, Director, Department of Code <br />Enforcement, requested permission to advertise for the sale of <br />approximately twenty (20) abandoned vehicles, which are being <br />stored at Steve & Gene's Auto & Truck Salvage and Repair, 3109 <br />South Gertrude Street, South Bend, Indiana. It was noted that <br />all vehicles have been stored more than fifteen (15) days, <br />identification checks had been run for auto theft and the owners <br />and lienholders notified. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, <br />seconded by Mrs. DeClercq and carried, the above request was <br />approved and a date of February 15, 1988, was established for the <br />receiving and opening of sealed bids. <br />
