323
REGULAR MEETING
OCTOBER 23, 1989
APPROVE REQUEST OF UNITED COMMUNITY AGAINST DRUG AND ALCOHOL
ABUSE TO CONDUCT MARCH - OCTOBER 27, 1989
Mr. Leszczynski advised that the appropriate City departments and
bureaus have reviewed the above referred to request which was
submitted to the Board on October 9, 1989, and approval is
recommended. It is noted that a new route was submitted
subsequent to the request being submitted to the Board and the
approval is for the new route which is as follows:
Lincolnway West to Chapin, Chapin to Western, Western
to Taylor Street, cross intersection and proceed down
Taylor Street to the Stanley Coveleski Regional Baseball
Stadium.
Upon a motion made by Mrs. DeClercq, seconded by Ms. Humphreys
and carried, the request, with revised route, was approved.
APPROVE REQUEST OF PARK AVENUE NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION TO CLOSE
MANITOU PLACE FROM FOREST TO PARK FOR HALLOWEEN PARTY - OCTOBER
29, 1989
Mr. Leszczynski advised that the appropriate City departments and
bureaus have approved the above referred to request which was
submitted to the Board on October 16, 1989, and approval is
recommended. Upon a motion made by Mrs. DeClercq, seconded by
Ms. Humphreys and carried, the recommendation was accepted and
the request approved.
REQUEST FOR 4-WAY STOP SIGN AT INTERSECTION OF WOODLAWN AT
INGLEWOOD - REFERRED
In a letter to the Board, 1st District Councilmember Stephen J.
Luecke requested the placement of stop signs on Woodlawn at
Inglewood. He noted that Woodlawn is a busy street with many
motorists cutting through between Riverside and Portage often at
excessive speeds. He also noted that this intersection is
complicated by the proximity of Kessler intersecting Woodward at
an angle. The installation of a 4-way stop sign at that
intersection would enhance the orderly flow of traffic and
increase the safety for motorists and children in the area.
Mr. Luecke was present and asked for the Board's favorable
recommendation on this request. Upon a motion made by Mr.
Leszczynski, seconded by Ms. Humphreys and carried, the request
was referred to the appropriate City departments and bureaus for
review and recommendation.
REQUEST OF UAW LOCAL #5 UNION HALL TO INSTALL BARRIERS IN THE
PUBLIC RIGHT-OF-WAY - REFERRED
Mr. Thomas E. Taylor, President, UAW Local #5, 1426 South Main
Street, South Bend, Indiana, advised the Board that recently they
have undertaken an extensive remodeling and beautification
program at the UAW Local #5 Union Hall, both inside and out. Mr.
Taylor stated that the outside project was in part brought about
because of problems with semi -drivers using their lot for parking
of heavy vehicles and damaging curbs and asphalt paving. Mr.
Taylor noted that the semi -drivers utilize the Union's property
in front for access to the docks of the companies they service
and this causes damage to the Union Hall property.
In order to prevent further damage to their property, Mr. Taylor
is requesting permission to prevent the semi -drivers from using
the public access in front of their building or to be allowed to
place barriers around the perimeter. Upon a motion made by Mr.
Leszczynski, seconded by Ms. Humphreys and carried, the request
was referred to the appropriate City departments and Bureaus for
review and recommendation.
