REGULAR MEETING NOVEMBER 26, 1990 <br />APPROVE CHANGE ORDER NO 1 (FINAL) AND PROJECT COMPLETION <br />AFFIDAVIT - HOWARD PARK WALL PROJECT <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that Kankakee Valley Construction <br />Company, Inc., P.O. Box 1471, LaPorte, Indiana, has submitted <br />Change Order No. 1 (Final) indicating that the Contract amount be <br />increased by $68,930.97 for a new Contract sum including this <br />Change Order in the amount of $333,930.97. Additionally <br />submitted was the Project Completion Affidavit indicating this <br />new final cost. <br />Mr. Leszczynski noted that the Change Order reflects an increase <br />of $60,480.97 for wall repair. He noted that once the project <br />was begun it was discovered that underwater repairs were <br />necessary and this additional repair could not have been foreseen <br />from above ground prior to the start of the project. Upon a <br />motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Ms. Humphreys and <br />carried, Change Order No. 1 (Final) and the Project Completion <br />Affidavit were approved and the required three-year Maintenance <br />Bond as submitted was filed. <br />APPROVE REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR THE RECEIPT OF BIDS - PURGING <br />AND REFILING OF TWO (2) FORTY-FIVE FOOT (45') DIAMETER GAS <br />STORAGE SPHERES AND REPLACEMENT OF DEFECTIVE VALVES - DIVISION OF <br />ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES <br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Karl R. Kopec, Manager of <br />Operations, Division of Environmental Services, requested that <br />the Board advertise for the receipt of bids to perform work on <br />the Bureau of Wastewater's two (2) forty-five foot (45') diameter <br />gas storage spheres. Mr. Kopec advised that this work will <br />include the purging andrefiling of the spheres as well as the <br />replacement of defective valves. In response to questions from <br />the news media concerning this project, Mr. Leszczynski advised <br />that currently some methane gas is in the storage tanks which <br />must be removed and then the tanks will be cleaned, inspected and <br />defective valves replaced. Mr. Leszczynski further advised that <br />residents of the area will not notice any foul odor during this <br />process. <br />Therefore, Mr. Leszczynski made a motion that the request be <br />approved. Ms. Humphreys seconded the motion which carried. <br />REQUEST OF CITY AWNING TO INSTALL FOUR (4) CANOPIES AT "DOCWEEDS" <br />- NORTH MICHIGAN STREET - REFERRED <br />Mr. Hank Craft, Sales Representative, City Awning of South Bend, <br />1835 South Franklin Street, South Bend, Indiana, requested <br />permission to install four (4) canopies at Docweeds on North <br />Michigan Street which is located in the old J.C. Penny's <br />building. Mr. Craft noted that three (3) old fashion triangular <br />awnings and one (1) backlit canopy will be installed. The <br />canopies will be installed a minimum of eight feet (8') six <br />inches (61') from the sidewalk level to the bottom of the frame. <br />Mr. Craft submitted with the request drawings indicating canopy <br />details. <br />Mr. Leszczynski made a motion that the request be referred to the <br />appropriate City departments and bureaus for review and <br />recommendation. Ms. Humphreys seconded the motion which carried. <br />REQUEST OF NEAR NORTHWEST NEIGHBORHOOD. INC. TO CLOSE STREETS AND <br />CONDUCT CARRIAGE RIDES IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE PARK <br />AVENUE/RIVERSIDE DRIVE CANDLELIGHT WALKS - REFERRED <br />Ms. Barbara Gatto, Near Northwest Neighborhood, Inc., District <br />13, 808 Golden Avenue, South Bend, Indiana, advised that the <br />Board of Park Commissioners previously approved the use of <br />Triangle Park located at the corner of Portage, Vassar and <br />Sherman for December 22, 1990 for Christmas festivities.
