204 <br />REGULAR MEETING JUNE 25, 1990 <br />Mr. Leszczynski made a motion that the request be referred to the <br />appropriate City departments and bureaus for review and <br />recommendation. Mrs. DeClercq seconded the motion which carried. <br />REQUEST FOR DESIGNATED HANDICAPPED PARKING SPACE - 1635 KENDALL <br />STREET - REFERRED <br />In a letter to the Board, Ms. Mary Beth Geyer, 1635 Kendall <br />Street, South Bend, Indiana, requested that the parking space in <br />front of her residence be designated as a handicapped parking <br />space. Ms. Geyer advised that she is a double amputee and it is <br />very difficult for her to have to walk out into the middle of the <br />street when she is picked -up for her appointments. Mr. <br />Leszczynski made a motion that the request be referred to the <br />Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and the Police Department for <br />review and recommendation. Mrs. DeClercq seconded the motion <br />which carried. <br />NORTHERN INDIA <br />PARKING/BUS <br />RRFRRRRn <br />TORICAL SOCIETY F( <br />SIGNS" - <br />CHAPIN STREET - <br />In a letter to the Board, Ms. Kathleen Stiso Mullins, Executive <br />Director and Mr. Todd Zeiger, Curator, Northern Indiana <br />Historical Society, 112 South Lafayette Boulevard, South Bend, <br />Indiana, advised that the Society would like to request that No <br />Parking/Bus Loading Zone signs be posted in the 100 block of <br />Chapin Street from West Washington to the Chapin Street driveway <br />for the Oliver Mansion. They noted that the Society is very <br />concerned about the potential for a traffic hazard that could be <br />created by visitors to the mansion parking along Chapin. Also, <br />the Society needs to use this space for tourist buses to load and <br />unload passengers who are touring the mansion. They further <br />noted that the buses will not park on Chapin but will remove <br />themselves to another location once passengers have discharged. <br />Visitors driving to visit the mansion can park in the new lot <br />created to the west of the Oliver gardens. <br />Additionally requested was resident only parking on Chapin Street <br />from the Chapin Street driveway for the Oliver Mansion to West <br />Jefferson. This will prevent visitors to the mansion from <br />parking in front of the houses located along Chapin. <br />Ms. Mullins and Mr. Zeiger advised the Board that the Oliver <br />Mansion is targeted to open in August and they would like to have <br />the parking restrictions in place prior to the opening. <br />Mr. Leszczynski made a motion that the request be referred to the <br />appropriate City departments and bureaus for review and <br />recommendation. Mrs. DeClercq seconded the motion which carried. <br />APPROVE REQUESTS: <br />- OF OFFICE OF COMMUNITY AFFAIRS FOR USE OF PARKING GARAGES FOR <br />"DISPLACED" PARKERS IN CONJUNCTION WITH ETHNIC FESTIVAL <br />ACTIVITIES <br />- OF OFFICE OF COMMUNITY AFFAIRS TO CONDUCT VARIOUS EVENTS <br />RELATED TO THE ETHNIC FESTIVAL AND TO CLOSE VARIOUS STREETS IN <br />CONJUNCTION WITH THOSE EVENTS <br />- OF HOSPICE OF ST. JOSEPH COUNTY TO CONDUCT 5TH ANNUAL WALK FOR <br />HOSPICE - OCTOBER 14, 1990 <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that the appropriate City departments and <br />bureaus have reviewed the above referred to requests which were <br />submitted to the Board on June 4, 1990 and June 11, 1990 and <br />approval is recommended.
