Im <br />REGULAR MEETING MAY 21, 1990 <br />APPROVE CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT - RINK RIVERSIDE WALKWAY PROJECT <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that in accordance with the bid awarded on <br />May 7, 1990, to Kaser-Spraker Construction, Inc., P.O. Box 3605, <br />South Bend, Indiana, in the amount of $268,696.00 for the above <br />referred to project, a Contract in said amount was being submitted <br />for Board approval. Upon a motion made by Mrs. DeClercq, seconded <br />by Ms. Humphreys and carried, the Contract was approved and the <br />appropriate Insurance, Performance Bond and Labor and Materials <br />Payment Bond as submitted were filed. <br />REQUEST OF CITY AWNING TO INSTALL CANOPY AT 2306 MISHAWAKA AVENUE - <br />AQUINAS BOOK STORE - REFERRED <br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Hank Craft, Sales Representative, City <br />Awning of South Bend, 1835 South Franklin Street, South Bend, <br />Indiana, requested approval to install a canopy at the Aquinas Book <br />Store at,,' <br />2306 Mishawaka Avenue. Mr. Craft submitted with his <br />request a drawing and diagram of the proposed canopy. Mr. <br />Leszczynski made a motion that the request be referred to the <br />appropriate City departments and bureaus for review and <br />recommendations. Mrs. DeClercq seconded the motion which carried. <br />REQUEST OF DAN'S BIKE SHOP TO PLACE SIGN IN PUBLIC RIGHT-OF-WAY - <br />REFERRED <br />Mr. Dan Medich, Dan's Bike Shop, 2110 Western Avenue, South Bend, <br />Indiana, requested permission to place a 41x8' movable sign on the <br />sidewalk. Mr. Medich stated that with the sign on the public <br />right-of-way there would be approximately five feet (51) of sidewalk <br />for pedestrians to use. He noted that he needs this sign to inform <br />the public that he is liquidating his business. He further noted <br />that the sign would be required for approximately one (1) year. Mr. <br />Leszczynski made a motion that the request be referred to the <br />appropriate City departments and bureaus for review and <br />recommendation. Mrs. DeClercq seconded the motion which carried. <br />REQUEST OF SUE'S AUCTION SERVICE TO CLOSE ALLEY BEHIND THE 100 BLOCK <br />OF WAKEWA STREET IN CONJUNCTION WITH AUCTION - JUNE 16 1990 - <br />REFERRED <br />Ms. Sue Bolin, Sue's Auction Service, 68697 Kenilworth Road, <br />Lakeville, Indiana, requested that the alley running behind the 100 <br />block of Wakewa (off of North Michigan Street) be closed on <br />Saturday, June 16, 1990 from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for the purpose <br />of an auction. Ms. Bolin stated that this is an estate sale and <br />there is virtually no yard space and monetarily for the family the <br />contents of the home do not warrant renting a building and moving it <br />to another location. Therefore, Mr. Leszczynski made a motion that <br />the request be referred to the appropriate City departments and <br />bureaus for review and recommendation. Mrs. DeClercq seconded the <br />motion which carried. <br />NO ACTION REQUIRED - REQUEST OF CITY AWNING TO INSTALL CANOPY AT <br />3004 ARDMORE TRAIL - LACOPO'S PIZZERIA <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that pursuant to the request of City Awning <br />submitted to the Board on May 7, 1990, to install a canopy at 3004 <br />Ardmore Trail, the appropriate City departments and bureaus have <br />reviewed the request and have advised that the canopy will not <br />encroach onto the public right-of-way. Therefore, no action by <br />the Board of Public Works is required at this time. <br />DENY REQUEST FOR DESIGNATED HANDICAPPED PARKING SPACE AT 1116 BIRNER <br />STREET <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting has <br />reviewed the request submitted to the Board on April 23, 1990 for a <br />designated handicapped parking space at 116 Birner and at this time <br />
