162 <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />MAY 14, 1990 <br />REQUEST TO CLOSE HUEY, FROM LINDEN TO SMITH, FOR BLOCK PARTY - <br />JUNE 10, 1990 - REFERRED <br />Ms. Toni Maefield, 2123 West Linden, South Bend, Indiana, <br />submitted to the Board an Application for Use of and Blocking of <br />Access to Public Right -of -Way for a Party or Similar Event, <br />requesting that Huey, from Linden to Smith, be closed on Sunday, <br />June 10, 1990 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for a block party. <br />Mr. Leszczynski noted that this is an annual request and made a <br />motion that the request be referred to the appropriate City <br />departments and bureaus for review and recommendation. Ms. <br />Humphreys seconded the motion which carried. <br />APPROVE ETHNIC FESTIVAL BOOTH APPLICATIONS <br />Ms. Mikki Dobski, Director, Office of Community Affairs, <br />submitted to the Board her recommendations for food, craft, <br />display and activity booth applications in conjunction with the <br />Ethnic Festival as follows: <br />Food Booths: 41 <br />Craft Booths: 45 <br />Display Booths: 17 <br />Activities: 6 <br />Additionally, twelve (12) food booth applications with <br />modifications were submitted for approval. <br />Total booths as of May 8, 1990: 121 <br />Mrs. DeClercq made a motion that the applications as submitted be <br />approved. Ms. Humphreys seconded the motion which carried. <br />APPROVE REQUEST OF TETZLAFF'S AUCTION SERVICE TO CLOSE 34TH <br />STREET, FROM VINE TO PLEASANT, IN CONJUNCTION WITH ESTATE SALE - <br />MAY 19, 1990 <br />In a letter to the Board, Ms. Debbie Tetzlaff, Tetzlaff's Auction <br />& Realty, 61362 Miami Road, South Bend, Indiana, advised that <br />they have been contracted to conduct a public auction of the <br />estate of Evelyn D. Zimmer at 1005 34th Street. Due to the large <br />amount of personal property and the shortage of yard space, it is <br />requested that 34th Street, from Vine to Pleasant be closed on <br />May 19, 1990 from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. <br />Ms. Tetzlaff was present and advised the Board that she has <br />spoken with the neighbors of the area and they have no objection <br />to the street closing. She reiterated that due to the lack of <br />yard space and the large amount of personal property to be <br />auctioned, it is imperative that they be allowed to utilize the <br />street in order to adequately liquidate the property. <br />Due to the fact that this auction will take place on Saturday and <br />the request has just recently been received by the Board, Mrs. <br />DeClercq made a motion that the request be approved subject to <br />coordination and approval by the Police Department and the Bureau <br />of Traffic and Lighting. Ms. Humphreys seconded the motion which <br />carried. <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised Ms. Tetzlaff that the street is not to be <br />utilized for the sale of any type of food products but solely to <br />facilitate the disposal of personal property at the auction. Ms. <br />Tetzlaff assured Mr. Leszczynski that the street will not be used <br />by vendors for the sale of any type of food products. <br />APPROVE CONTRACTORS BONDS <br />Mr. Michael P. Meeks, Director, Division of Engineering, <br />recommended that the following Contractors Bonds be approved: <br />1 <br />1 <br />1 <br />- Barry Gerard Effective 5/14/90 <br />- Bela Ban, Jr. Effective 5/14/90 <br />
