REGULAR MEETING AUGUST 19, 1991 REQUESTS REFERRED: Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. DeClercq and carried, the following requests were referred to the appropriate City departments and bureaus for review and recommendation: OF UNITED COMMUNITY AGAINST DRUG AND ALCOHOL ABUSE TO CONDUCT THE 3RD ANNUAL RED RIBBON DAY MARCH - OCTOBER 25, 1991 In a letter to the Board, Ms. Gladys W. Muhammad, Community Organizer, South Bend Heritage Foundation, United Community Against Drug and Alcohol Abuse, 914 Lincolnway West, South Bend, Indiana, advised that the week of October 19-27, 1991 has been designated as National Red Ribbon Week. In order to show local support in presenting a unified and visible commitment toward a creation of a Drug Free America, they are again organizing a Michiana Community -wide Red Ribbon Day March on Friday, October 25, 1991 beginning at 11:00 a.m. utilizing the sidewalks on the following route and approval is requested: Beginning at Colfax Cultural Center - Lincoln Way West to Chapin - Chapin to Western - Western to Taylor - cross the intersection and proceed down Taylor to end at the Stanley Coveleski Regional Baseball Stadium. In case of rain, the Bendix Theatre in Century Center will be utilized. - OF MR. STUART C. FISHMAN THAT "NO PARKING" ON TWO (2) BLOCKS OF ROSEMARY LANE NORTH OF EDISON ROAD BE LIFTED IN CONJUNCTION WITH PARTY AT 1555 NORTH ROSEMARY LANE - SEPTEMBER 7, 1991 Mr. Stuart C. Fishman, 1555 North Rosemary Lane, South Bend, Indiana, advised that on Saturday, September 7, 1991, he and his wife are holding a party at their residence from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. The two (2) blocks of Rosemary Lane north of Edison Road are designated "No Parking" and he is requesting that this designation be waived for the purpose of allowing guests to park on the street that day. He noted that there are no turns allowed from Edison Road that day due to the football game traffic pattern and that Rosemary Lane is not heavily traveled even on game days. Mr. Fishman further noted that a number of restaurants in the area have closed so the traffic will be even less. - TO CLOSE THE 1600 BLOCK OF DEVON CIRCLE FOR NEIGHBORHOOD BLOCK PARTY - SEPTEMBER 8, 1991 In a letter to the Board, Ms. Andrea L. Jones, 1608 Devon Circle, South Bend, Indiana, informed the Board that the neighbors on Devon Circle request the closure of the 1600 block of Devon Circle for a neighborhood block party from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 8, 1991 with a rain date of September 15, 1991. OF HAUPERT CONSTRUCTION TO ERECT A SIGN THAT WILL ENCROACH ONTO THE PUBLIC RIGHT-OF-WAY AT 1524 MIAMI STREET Mr. Bruce A. Haupert, Owner, Haupert Construction & Company, 1524 Miami Street, South Bend, Indiana, advised that he is planning to erect a sign on the west side of the building at 1524 Miami Street at the offices of Haupert Construction. Submitted with the request was a diagram indicating the specifics and dimensions of the sign to be erected. It is noted that the sign will project out over the public right-of-way and therefore they request approval for the installation of the sign. FOR DESIGNATED HANDICAPPED PARKING SPACE AT 742 PORTAGE AVENUE Mr. Bela E. Gabor, 742 Portage Avenue, South Bend, Indiana, requested that the parking space in front of his residence be designated as a handicapped parking space as he is handicapped and is unable to park in front of his residence.
