REGULAR MEETING <br />AUGUST 19, 1991 <br />REQUESTS REFERRED: <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. DeClercq <br />and carried, the following requests were referred to the <br />appropriate City departments and bureaus for review and <br />recommendation: <br />OF UNITED COMMUNITY AGAINST DRUG AND ALCOHOL ABUSE TO CONDUCT <br />THE 3RD ANNUAL RED RIBBON DAY MARCH - OCTOBER 25, 1991 <br />In a letter to the Board, Ms. Gladys W. Muhammad, Community <br />Organizer, South Bend Heritage Foundation, United Community <br />Against Drug and Alcohol Abuse, 914 Lincolnway West, South <br />Bend, Indiana, advised that the week of October 19-27, 1991 <br />has been designated as National Red Ribbon Week. In order to <br />show local support in presenting a unified and visible <br />commitment toward a creation of a Drug Free America, they are <br />again organizing a Michiana Community -wide Red Ribbon Day <br />March on Friday, October 25, 1991 beginning at 11:00 a.m. <br />utilizing the sidewalks on the following route and approval <br />is requested: <br />Beginning at Colfax Cultural Center - Lincoln Way <br />West to Chapin - Chapin to Western - Western to <br />Taylor - cross the intersection and proceed down <br />Taylor to end at the Stanley Coveleski Regional <br />Baseball Stadium. In case of rain, the Bendix <br />Theatre in Century Center will be utilized. <br />- OF MR. STUART C. FISHMAN THAT "NO PARKING" ON TWO (2) BLOCKS <br />OF ROSEMARY LANE NORTH OF EDISON ROAD BE LIFTED IN <br />CONJUNCTION WITH PARTY AT 1555 NORTH ROSEMARY LANE - <br />SEPTEMBER 7, 1991 <br />Mr. Stuart C. Fishman, 1555 North Rosemary Lane, South Bend, <br />Indiana, advised that on Saturday, September 7, 1991, he and <br />his wife are holding a party at their residence from 10:30 <br />a.m. until 12:30 p.m. The two (2) blocks of Rosemary Lane <br />north of Edison Road are designated "No Parking" and he is <br />requesting that this designation be waived for the purpose of <br />allowing guests to park on the street that day. He noted <br />that there are no turns allowed from Edison Road that day due <br />to the football game traffic pattern and that Rosemary Lane <br />is not heavily traveled even on game days. Mr. Fishman <br />further noted that a number of restaurants in the area have <br />closed so the traffic will be even less. <br />- TO CLOSE THE 1600 BLOCK OF DEVON CIRCLE FOR NEIGHBORHOOD <br />BLOCK PARTY - SEPTEMBER 8, 1991 <br />In a letter to the Board, Ms. Andrea L. Jones, 1608 Devon <br />Circle, South Bend, Indiana, informed the Board that the <br />neighbors on Devon Circle request the closure of the 1600 <br />block of Devon Circle for a neighborhood block party from <br />2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 8, 1991 with a <br />rain date of September 15, 1991. <br />OF HAUPERT CONSTRUCTION TO ERECT A SIGN THAT WILL ENCROACH <br />ONTO THE PUBLIC RIGHT-OF-WAY AT 1524 MIAMI STREET <br />Mr. Bruce A. Haupert, Owner, Haupert Construction & Company, <br />1524 Miami Street, South Bend, Indiana, advised that he is <br />planning to erect a sign on the west side of the building at <br />1524 Miami Street at the offices of Haupert Construction. <br />Submitted with the request was a diagram indicating the <br />specifics and dimensions of the sign to be erected. It is <br />noted that the sign will project out over the public <br />right-of-way and therefore they request approval for the <br />installation of the sign. <br />FOR DESIGNATED HANDICAPPED PARKING SPACE AT 742 PORTAGE <br />AVENUE <br />Mr. Bela E. Gabor, 742 Portage Avenue, South Bend, Indiana, <br />requested that the parking space in front of his residence be <br />designated as a handicapped parking space as he is <br />handicapped and is unable to park in front of his residence. <br />
