Dillon, Director, Division
of Environmental Services, requested that the Board award the low
bid of the Haynes Corporation, 3725 Commerce Street, P.O. Box
179, Jackson, Michigan, for five (5) replacement cylinder heads
for the blower engines at the Wastewater Treatment Plant in the
amount of $6,265.00 each for a total of $31,325.00. It is noted
that bids for these replacement cylinder heads were opened by the
Board on July 20, 1992. Mr. Leszczynski therefore made a motion
that the recommendation be accepted and the bid be awarded. Mrs.
Mueller seconded the motion which carried.
S FOR WORTS
AWARD BID - NIMTZ PARKWAY - AIRPORT 2010 PROJECT
Mr. Carl P. Littrell, Director, Division of Engineering, advised
that on July 20, 1992, the Board received six (6) bids for
construction of the above project. He noted that he has reviewed
the bids and a tabulation prepared by Cole Associates, Inc.
Mr. Littrell informed the Board that the review found minor
arithmetic errors in four (4) bids resulting in discrepancies
between the calculated totals and those read at the July 20,
1992, Board meeting. These errors amount to a bid of $2.00 more
than read for Rieth-Riley Construction, a bid of $0.01 more than
read for LaPorte Construction, $8,330 less than read for Warner &
Sons, Inc., and $882.00 more than read for LaFree Excavating.
However, the lowest bidder is not changed by these corrections.
Therefore, Mr. Littrell recommended that the Board award the
contract with alternates to the lowest bidder, Rieth-Riley
Construction Company, Inc., P.O. Box 1775, South Bend, Indiana,
in the amount of $615,586.36. This bidder was the lowest bidder
on both the base bid and the base bid plus alternates, as well as
the alternates alone.
In conclusion, Mr. Littrell noted that the Engineer's Statement
of Probable Construction Cost, with alternates, is $824,660.00.
Sufficient funds are available from the Indiana Toll Road
Transportation Improvement Fund Grant to the City of South Bend
to pay for this construction.
