360
REGULAR MEETING
AUGUST 9, 1993
filed. Mrs. Mueller seconded the motion which carried.
PRIVILEGE OF THE FLOOR:
COMMENTS FROM COMMON COUNCIL PRESIDENT CONCERNING REPLACEMENT OF
MERCURY VAPOR STREET LIGHTS WITH SODIUM VAPOR LIGHTS
Mr. Steve Luecke, President, South Bend Common Council, noted that
Indiana Michigan Power Company is changing the City's street
lights from mercury vapor to sodium vapor. Mr. Luecke stated that
it is his understanding that at this time I&M is changing some of
the lights in the older neighborhoods. Mr. Luecke asked that the
Board request that I&M not change any of the street lights in the
older neighborhoods without the City first being able to determine
if this new lighting is appropriate in those neighborhoods. He
noted that the change to the sodium vapor light, which is a yellow
light, gives the appearance of not being brighter. Mr. Luecke
informed the Board that he has received complaints from residents
of Lindsey Street. Mr. Leszczynski stated that the City will look
into this matter. Mr. Leszczynski also stated that the comments
he has received have all been compliments and residents indicated
that it appears that lighting has been increased and things look
brighter.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to _come before the Board, upon a
motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. Mueller and
carried, the meeting adjourned at 9:58 a.m.
BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS
Sandra M. Parmerlee, Clerk
C
1
