REGULAR MEETING
AUGUST 2, 1993
The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was convened at
9:35 a.m. on Monday, August 2, 1993, by Board President John E.
Leszczynski, with Mr. Leszczynski, Mr. James R. Caldwell and Mrs.
Mary H. Mueller present.
APPROVE MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING
Upon a motion made by Mr. Caldwell, seconded by Mrs. Mueller and
carried, the minutes of the regular meeting of the Board held on
July 26, 1993, were approved.
AWARD BID - FOUR (4) HEAVY DUTY TYPE ASPHALT HOT BOXES
Mr. Leszczynski advised that the Board is in receipt of a letter
from Mr. Matthew L. Chlebowski, Director, Division of Equipment
Services, advising that, on behalf of the Bureau of Streets, he
requests that the Board award the bid of Newman Equipment, Inc.,
1315 Terminal Road, Indianapolis, Indiana, as follows:
Aeroil Model HHE4T Unit Price $18,058.75
Total Price (4 Units) $72,235.00
Less Trade -In $ 1,100.00
Net Total $71,135.00
Mr. Chlebowski noted that Newman Equipment, Inc. was not the low
bidder for this equipment. The low bidder, Aggregate Construction
Equipment & Supply, 2222 West Washington, South Bend, Indiana, bid
a non -jacketed box. The specifications for this equipment called
for a twelve gauge heat jacket as the City is going from propane
to electric. The jacketed and insulated box will create more even
heat throughout the night which will help in start up. Mr.
Chlebowski stated that Newman Equipment submitted the lowest bid
for a jacketed box.
Therefore, Mrs. Mueller made a motion that the low bid of
Aggregate Construction Equipment & Supply be rejected as it failed
to meet specifications and that the bid of the next lowest bidder,
Newman Equipment, Inc., be awarded. Mr. Caldwell seconded the
motion which carried.
AWARD BID - CAR WASHES FOR CITY VEHICLES
In a letter to the Board, Police Chief Ronald G.
