044 <br />REGULAR MEETING FEBRUARY 8, 1993 <br />AWARD BID - HI -BAND PORTABLE TWO-WAY RADIOS, VEHICULAR CHARGERS <br />AND ACCESSORY ITEMS FOR THE SOUTH BEND FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />Board Attorney and Member Mary H. Mueller noted that on December <br />14, 1992, the Board opened bids for eighty-five (85), more or <br />less, highband portable two-way radios and vehicular chargers, <br />sixty-five (65), more or less, UHF portable two way radios and <br />vehicular chargers and optional accessory items. <br />Mrs. Mueller further noted that the Police Department is <br />reconsidering their needs in regards to radios. However, the <br />Fire Department at this time recommends that the Board award the <br />bid submitted by Motorola C&E, Inc., 4109 Winterfield run, Fort <br />Wayne, Indiana. <br />Therefore, Mrs. Mueller made a motion that the Board award the <br />bid of Motorola for the Fire Department needs through December, <br />1994, subject to the letter submitted by Motorola dated February <br />1, 1993 which indicates that Motorola shall supply thirty-five <br />(35) HT1000 units with vehicular charger/mobile adapter <br />capability four (4) weeks after receipt of a valid factory order <br />and that the vehicular charger/mobile adapters will be supplied <br />no later than August 30, 1993. Mr. Leszczynski seconded the <br />motion which carried. <br />AWARD BID - INSPECTION AND REPAIR OF PUMP NO. 3 AND APPURTENANCES <br />DIVISION A: PUMP INSPECTION AND REPAIRS <br />DIVISION B: RIGHT ANGLE DRIVE INSPECTION AND REPAIRS <br />(WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT) <br />Mr. Carl P. Littrell, Director, Division of Engineering, advised <br />the Board that on February 1, 1993, bids were received and opened <br />for the above referred to project. After reviewing those bids, <br />Mr. Littrell recommends that the Board award two (2) contracts <br />for this work. The work is divided into Division A and B and a <br />different contractor was the low bidder in each division. <br />Mr. Littrell recommended that the Board award Division A to <br />Fairbanks Morse Pump Corporation, 3601 Fairbanks Avenue, Kansas <br />City, Kansas, in the amount of $34,781.00 and Division B to <br />HydroAire, Inc., 834 West Madison, Chicago, Illinois, in the <br />amount of $20,683.00.. <br />Therefore, Mrs. Mueller made a motion that the recommendation be <br />accepted and the bids be awarded as outlined above. Mr. <br />Leszczynski seconded the motion which carried. <br />AWARD BID - SCISSORS LIFT AND INSTALLATION - SANITATION <br />DEPARTMENT GARAGE EXPANSION AND RENOVATION PROJECT <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that the Board is in receipt of a <br />Memorandum from Mr. Carl P. Littrell, Director, Division of <br />Engineering, indicating that on January 11, 1993, the Board <br />received two (2) bids for the above project. The bids were one <br />lump sum price to furnish and install one 75,000 pound truck lift <br />in the Sanitation Department garage addition now under <br />construction. <br />Mr. Littrell noted that SEFAC Lift and Equipment Corporation of <br />Columbia, Maryland bid $69,000.00. Safetylane Equipment <br />Corporation of Bloomington, Indiana, bid $79,883.00. <br />Mr. Littrell recommended that the Board award the contract to <br />Safetylane Equipment, the higher bidder, because the bid from <br />SEFAC is not responsive to the requirements of the specifications <br />for this project. The equipment that SEFAC proposed in their bid <br />documents, an Omer brand Model Vega 325, falls short of the lift <br />capacity, dimensional sizes of the lift platform and clearances. <br />Additionally, the electrical controls for the Vega lift have not <br />1 <br />1 <br />1 <br />
