Mr. Caldwell made a motion that the recommendation be <br />accepted and the bids be awarded. Mrs. Manier seconded the motion <br />which carried. <br />APPROVE RECOMMENDATION TO REJECT BIDS AND APPROVE REQUEST TO <br />ADVERTISE FOR THE RECEIPT OF BIDS FOR THE PURCHASE OF ONE (1) <br />36,000 G.V.W. RESCUE VEHICLE <br />Fire Chief Luther Taylor informed the Board that after reviewing <br />the bids which the Board opened on March 28, 1994, from Whiteford <br />Ford and Truck Sales of South Bend and Renewed Performance, Inc., <br />of Tipton, Indiana, for one (1) 35,000 G.V.W. crew cab chassis and <br />to remount a 1988 body to the new chassis, the Fire Department <br />recommends that both bids be rejected. <br />Chief Taylor stated that it has been determined that it is in the <br />best interest of the City to keep the current Rescue unit for a <br />confined space entry vehicle and to purchase a complete new Rescue <br />unit. <br />The purchase of a new Rescue unit has been approved by the City <br />Controller and the method of funding will be from the Emergency <br />Medical Services Capital Improvement Fund. <br />Therefore, Chief Taylor recommended that the bids received on <br />March 28, 1994 be rejected and that the Board advertise for the <br />receipt of new bids for one (1) 36,000 G.V.W. rescue vehicle. <br />Mrs. Manier made a motion that the recommendation be accepted and <br />approved. Mr. Caldwell seconded the motion which carried. <br />APPROVE REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR THE RECEIPT OF BIDS - <br />REFURBISHING OF ONE (1) 1977 C-F MACK PUMPER - FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />In a letter to the Board, Fire Chief Luther Taylor requested that <br />the Board advertise for the receipt of bids for the refurbishing <br />of one (1) 1977 C-F Mack Pumper. This vehicle will be put back in <br />the front line and will serve the Department for several more <br />years. The method of payment will be from the Emergency Medical <br />Services Capital Improvement Fund. Mrs. Manier made a motion that <br />the request be approved. Mr. Caldwell seconded the motion which <br />carried. <br />APPROVE REQUESTS: <br />- TO CLOSE UNION AVENUE, FROM SOLOMON TO MAC ARTHUR, FOR <br />NEIGHBORHOOD BLOCK PARTY - AUGUST 7, 1994 <br />- TO CLOSE 34TH STREET, FROM MISHAWAKA AVENUE TO VINE STREET, <br />FOR BLOCK PARTY - AUGUST 2, 1994 <br />- TO CLOSE 32ND STREET, FROM MISHAWAKA AVENUE TO WALL STREET, <br />FOR BLOCK PARTY FOR NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH NIGHT - AUGUST 2 1994 <br />- TO CLOSE PARK LANE FROM LAFAYETTE TO MICHIGAN FOR NATIONAL <br />NIGHT OUT - AUGUST 2, 1994 <br />Mr. Caldwell advised that the requests to close Union Avenue and <br />South 34th Street, for block parties, which were submitted to the <br />Board on July 5, 1994, have been reviewed by the appropriate City <br />departments and bureaus and approval is recommended. <br />Additionally, the requests submitted by Ms. Phyllis M. Fuchs, 810 <br />32nd Street, South Bend, Indiana, to close 32nd Street, from <br />Mishawaka Avenue to Wall Street, from 6:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., on <br />Tuesday, August 2, 1994, for a block party for neighbor Watch <br />Night and the request of Mr. J. Edward Talley, 1081 Riverside <br />Drive, South bend, Indiana, on behalf of the Park Avenue <br />Neighborhood Association, to close Park Lane, from Lafayette to <br />Michigan Street, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 2, <br />1994, for a National Night Out event, have been reviewed by the <br />appropriate Departments and are recommended for approval. <br />
