89 <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />JULY 11, 1994 <br />Farmington Hills, Michigan <br />For site located at: 5613 Western Avenue <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />Mr. Zmudzinski noted that both of these Permits are for Amoco <br />Corporation in regard to groundwater cleanup at gas station sites. <br />The permit for the 310 Dixie Highway site is a renewal. The only <br />change from the previous permit is that monitoring is now <br />quarterly instead of monthly because concentrations of VOCs has <br />consistently been low. The Permit for the 5613 Western Avenue <br />site is a new permit. It is similar to the start up permit for <br />the other site with monthly monitoring required for the first five <br />(5) years of the permit. <br />Mr. Leszczynski made a motion that these Permits be approved. <br />Mrs. Manier seconded the motion which carried. <br />APPROVE REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR THE RECEIPT OF BIDS - LOCKS <br />SMOKE DETECTORS AND INSTALLATION FOR THE RESIDENTIAL SECURITY <br />PROGRAM <br />In a letter to the Board, Police Chief Ronald G. Marciniak advised <br />that the South Bend Police Department wishes to receive bids on <br />locks, smoke detectors and installation for the Residential <br />Security Program. The program is funded through a Community <br />Development grant to provide deadbolt locks, window pins, smoke <br />detectors and installation to senior citizens meeting the <br />established guidelines. <br />Specifications for these items indicate that the City wishes to <br />purchase six hundred (600), more or less, deadbolt locks, three <br />hundred (300), more or less, battery powered smoke detector/alarms <br />and wishes to contract for the installation of the deadbolt locks, <br />smoke detectors, window pins and the special supplemental hardware <br />as specified by the Crime Prevention Officer or Fire Inspector. <br />Installation is to be completed no later than November 30, 1994. <br />Mr. Leszczynski noted that this program is part of the Good <br />Neighbors/Good Neighborhood Program and will be conducted through <br />the South Bend Police and Fire Departments. <br />Mr. Caldwell made a motion that this request be approved. Mrs. <br />Manier seconded the motion which carried. <br />REQUESTS REFERRED: <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Caldwell <br />and carried, the following requests were referred to various City <br />departments and bureaus for review and recommendation: <br />OF SAINT JOSEPH HIGH SCHOOL TO CONDUCT WALK-A-THON - OCTOBER <br />16, 1994 <br />Ms. Barbara Jemielity, Principal, Saint Joseph High School, <br />1441 North Michigan Street,.South Bend, Indiana, requested <br />permission to conduct a Walk-A-Thon on September 18, 1994 <br />beginning at 1:00 p.m. Ms. Jemielity stated that should this <br />date not be acceptable to the City, their second choice would <br />be Sunday, October 16, 1994. <br />Ms. Jemielity stated that the event is sponsored by Saint <br />Joseph's High School to raise funds for the benefit of the <br />school's co -curricular activities. The participants will be <br />Saint Joseph High School students, parents, alumni, <br />administrators and school board. Eight hundred (800) walkers <br />are expected to participant. Ms. Jemielity submitted with <br />the request the proposed route for this walk. <br />
