07
REGULAR MEETING
JANUARY 31, 1994
AWARD BIDS - COMPUTERS AND RELATED EQUIPMENT
In a Memorandum to the Board, Mr. Kevin Horton, City Controller,
advised that based upon their analysis of the results of the
computer bids received on January 4, 1994, he is submitting a list
of equipment and vendors recommended for award.
Mr. Horton noted that all of the equipment, except for the
following, are being awarded to the lowest bidder:
486SX/33 computers
486DX2/66 computers
486DX/25 laptop computers
Canon BJ-230 printer ,
Panasonic KX-P2624 printer
The low bidders for the above equipment, L. L. Low & Associates,
Inc, 4612 South Main Street, South Bend, Indiana, and Adams Remco,
Inc., 2612 Foundation Drive, P.O. Box 3968, South Bend, Indiana
were rejected due to the equipment bid not meeting the mandatory
specifications in that there were no hard drives included in the
quoted computers and the printers did not meet speed
specifications. More specifically:
486SX/33 COMPUTERS
L. L. Low Associates submitted the low bid for this equipment
in the amount of $899.00 for each computer. After checking
the specifications for the equipment, it was discovered that
the computers did not include the mandatory 5.25" floppy disk
drive, the minimum 212 MB hard drive or the 15" color
monitor. Low Associates was given the opportunity to provide
the City with prices for these items but declined to do so.
486DX2/66 COMPUTERS
Low bid submitted by L. L. Low Associates. Bid rejected for
same reasons as stated above.
486DX/25 LAPTOP COMPUTERS
Low bid submitted by L. L. Low Associates and rejected for
same reasons as noted above. The laptop computers bid did
not include all the mandatory features required in the
specifications. The laptops did not include the additional 4
MB RAM, the Docking Station Ports or the PCMCIA 14.4
send/receive modem.
CANON BJ-230 PRINTER
The low bid for this printer was submitted by Adams Remco.
They submitted a bid for a comparable printer, the IBM Bubble
Jet"#4070JJ, which upon review, did not meet the same speed
specifications as the Canon BJ-230 printer. The difference
in the speed specifications was significant enough to
disqualify the bid of Adams Remco.
PANASONIC KX-P2624 PRINTER
The low bid for this printer was submitted by Adams Remco.
They submitted a bid for a comparable printer, the IBM
Personal Printer #2390, which upon review, did not meet the
same speed specifications as the Panasonic KX-P2624. The
difference in the speed specifications was significant enough
to disqualify the bid of Adams Remco.
Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Caldwell
and carried, the following bids were awarded:
1
1
1
