REGULAR MEETING OCTOBER 23, 1995 <br />RECOMMENDATION DENIED - TO PURCHASE CITY -OWNED PROPERTY - 917 HILL <br />STREET. <br />Mr. Leszczynski stated that an unfavorable recommendation has been received by the Department <br />of Community and Economic Development, concerning a request as submitted by Mr. Mario E. <br />Manta, 704 East Angela Boulevard, South Bend, Indiana, to purchase City -owned property at 917 <br />Hill Street, South Bend, Indiana. Mr. Larry Magliozzi stated that the property is a 6,600 square foot <br />lot with 66 feet of frontage, and is an ideal potential building site. There are very few City -owned <br />lots in this neighborhood that are buildable. Currently, the student group associated with Habitat <br />for Humanity has an active program to construct new housing units. There also is a substantial <br />increase in interest in in -fill housing projects throughout the City by private contractors, therefore <br />this lot should be kept in the City inventory until all efforts have been exhausted to site a house on <br />this property. Upon motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. Manier and carried, the <br />request to purchase City -owned property at 917 Hill Street was denied. <br />REQUEST REFERRED <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. Manier and carried, the following <br />request was referred to the appropriate Bureaus and Departments for recommendation: <br />- TO ACQUIRE CITY -OWNED PROPERTY - 902 AND 906 SORIN - HABITAT FOR <br />HUMANITY <br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Matt Fitzgerald, Notre Dame Habitat for Humanity, Box F, Notre <br />Dame, Indiana, requested permission to acquire City -owned property at 902 and 906 Sorin, South <br />Bend, Indiana, which are adjoining lots on which Notre Dame Habitat for Humanity intends to build <br />a single family, three bedroom home for an approved family. <br />APPROVE CONTRACTOR AND EXCAVATION BONDS <br />Mr. Larry D. Spradlin, Sr., Engineer, Division of Engineering, recommended that the following <br />Contractors and Excavation Bonds be approved as follows: <br />BOND OF CONTRACTOR <br />Darwin R. Greenman Approved Retroactive to October 12, 1995 <br />EXCAVATION BONDS <br />Kimbles Plumbing Contractor Approved Retroactive to October 13, 1995 <br />Mr. Leszczynski made a motion that the recommendation be accepted and that the Bonds be <br />approved as outlined above. Mrs. Manier seconded the motion which carried. <br />FILING OF HUMANE SOCIETY MONTHLY REPORT - SEPTEMBER 1995 <br />Mr. Leszczynski indicated that the Board is in receipt of the monthly report as submitted by the <br />Humane Society of St. Joseph County, Inc., for the month of September 1995. The report indicates <br />the type and number of animals handled for the City of South Bend. Mr. Leszczynski made a <br />motion that the report be accepted for filing as submitted.
