REGULAR MEETING AUGUST 21. 1995 <br />APPROVAL OF RECOMMENDATION - TO CONDUCT "A WEEK WITHOUT_ VIOLENCE" <br />MARCH - YWCA <br />Mr. Leszczynski stated that favorable recommendations have been received by the Division of <br />Engineering„ olice Department and the City Attorney's office, in reference to a request as submitted <br />by Ms. Jan Halperin, YWCA, 802 North Lafayette, South Bend, Indiana to conduct the above <br />referred to march, in conjunction with the week-long event, "A Week Without Violence", on <br />Wednesday, October 18, 1995, beginning at 11:00 a.m., on the designated route as submitted. Upon <br />a motion made by Mrs. Manier, seconded by Mr. Caldwell and carried, the recommendation was <br />approved. <br />APPROVAL OF RECOMMENDATION - TO CONDUCT BLOCK PARTY <br />Mr. Leszczynski stated that favorable recommendations have been received by the Division of <br />Engineering, Police Department and the City Attorney's office, in reference to a request as submitted <br />by Ms. Claudia Hendricks, 443 South Jackson Street, South Bend, Indiana to conduct the above <br />referred to block party for children, on Saturday, August 26, 1995, from 11:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., <br />on Jackson Street, from Western to Huron. Upon a motion made by Mrs. Manier, seconded by Mr. <br />Caldwell and carried, the recommendation was approved. <br />APPROVAL OF RECOMMENDATION - TO CLOSE PHILIPPA STREET HABITAT FOR <br />HUMANITY <br />Mr. Leszczynski stated that favorable recommendations have been received by the Division of <br />Engineering, Police Department and the City Attorney's office, in reference to a request as submitted <br />by Ms. Glinda Nicodemus, Habitat for Humanity, 402 East South Street, South Bend, Indiana to <br />close Philippa Street, on Saturday, August 12, 1995, from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., and Monday, <br />August 14, 1995, through Saturday, August 19, 1995, from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., on Philippa <br />Street between Indiana Avenue and Calvert Street. Upon a motion made by Mrs. Manier, seconded <br />by Mr. Caldwell and carried, the recommendation was approved. <br />APPROVE SIDEWALK SALE PERMIT APPLICATION <br />Mr. Leszczynski indicated that the Board is in receipt of the following Sidewalk Sale Permit <br />applications: <br />1. APPLICANT: Osco Drug <br />BUSINESS ADDRESS: 128 South Michigan Street <br />DATES OF SALE: August 25 and 26, 1995 <br />GOODS TO BE SOLD: Pop, sunglasses, hats, football memorabilia <br />Mrs. Manier made a motion that these applications be approved. Mr. Caldwell seconded the motion <br />which carried. <br />APPROVE REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR RECEIPT OF BIDS SALE OF ABANDONED <br />VEHICLES <br />Mrs. Kathy Dempsey, Director, Department of Code Enforcement, requested permission to advertise <br />for the sale of approximately twenty-seven (27) abandoned vehicles, which are being stored at Super <br />Auto Salvage Corporation, 3300 South Main Street, South Bend, Indiana. It was noted that all <br />vehicles have been stored more than fifteen (15) days, identification checks had been run for auto <br />theft and the owners and lienholders notified. Upon a motion made by Mr. Caldwell, seconded by <br />Mrs. Manier and carried, the above request was approved. <br />APPROVAL OF REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR THE RECEIPT OF BIDS 1995 PARK <br />DEPARTMENT PAVEMENT REPAIRS - PROJECT NO. 95-58 <br />In a memorandum to the Board, Mr. Dan Weisel, Division of Engineering, requested permission to <br />advertise for the receipt of bids for the 1995 Park Department Pavement Repairs, and recommended <br />approval. Mr. Weisel stated that this project will repair asphalt surfaces at various Park Department <br />facilities. Upon a motion made by Mr. Caldwell, seconded by Mrs. Manier and carried, the request <br />was approved. <br />
