REGULAR MEETING AUGUST 14. 1995
<br />Monday, August 14, 1995, through Saturday, August 19, 1995, from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on
<br />Phillipa Street from Indiana Avenue to Calvert Street. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski,
<br />seconded by Mr. Caldwell and carried, the recommendation was approved.
<br />APPROVAL OF REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR THE RECEIPT OF BIDS - 1995 SEWER
<br />LINING PROGRAM - PROJECT NO. 95-66
<br />Mr. Dan Weisel, Division of Engineering, submitted a request to advertise for the receipt of bids for
<br />the above referred to project, and recommended approval. Mr. Weisel stated that this program will
<br />install liners in existing sanitary and combined storm and sanitary sewers in various areas of South
<br />Bend. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Caldwell and carried, the request
<br />was approved.
<br />REQUESTS REFERRED
<br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Caldwell and carried, the following
<br />requests were referred to the appropriate Bureaus and Departments for recommendation:
<br />- TO CONDUCT MARCH
<br />In a letter to the Board, Ms. Jan C. Halperin, YWCA, 802 North Lafayette, South Bend, Indiana,
<br />requested permission to conduct a march for "A Week Without Violence", on Wednesday, October
<br />18, 1995, beginning at 11:00 a.m., on the designated route as submitted.
<br />- LICENSE APPLICATION FOR RUBBISH AND GARBAGE REMOVAL SERVICE
<br />Mr. Leszczynski stated that the Board is in receipt of the above referred to License Application, as
<br />submitted by Mr. Joe E. Howard, 414 Walsh Street, South Bend, Indiana, requested approval of a
<br />License Application for 414 Walsh Street, South Bend, Indiana. Mr. Leszczynski stated that the
<br />Department of Sanitation has inspected the vehicles to be used, and recommended approval.
<br />APPROVE LICENSE APPLICATION - PUBLIC PARKING FACILITY
<br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. Manier and carried, the following
<br />license application was approved:
<br />Center City Associates
<br />102-119 North Michigan Street
<br />South Bend, Indiana
<br />The above licence application was approved and referred to the Deputy Controller's Office for
<br />issuance of a license. It was noted that the required Proof of Insurance as well as the hours and rates
<br />to be charged was attached to the application.
<br />APPROVE CLAIMS
<br />Mr. Kevin Horton, City Controller, submitted claims in the amount of $2,259,401.81 and
<br />recommended approval. Additionally, Mr. Juan Manigault, Executive Director, WDS of Northern
<br />Indiana, submitted one (1) list containing claims in the amount of $62,641.51 and recommended
<br />approval. Ms. Ann Kolata, Department of Community and Economic Development, submitted a
<br />claim for the College Football Hall of Fame and recommended approval. Mr. Leszczynski made a
<br />motion that the claims be approved and the reports as submitted be filed. Mr. Caldwell seconded
<br />the motion which carried.
<br />PRIVILEGE OF THE FLOOR
<br />Mr. Caldwell stated that he would like to extend his appreciation for a job well done by the City of
<br />South Bend Police Department, Fire Department, Building Department and the Street Department,
<br />for the prompt attention and safety measures they gave the citizens of South Bend, in conjunction
<br />with the van explosion on Saturday, August 12, 1995.
