(S ~ =- REGULAR MEETING <br />JULY 18, 2007 <br />(1) month. Chief Buchanon joined the Board in thanking him for his commitment, <br />dedication, and distinguished years of service to the South Bend Fire Department and the <br />citizens of South Bend. Upon a motion made by Ms. Dempsey, seconded by Mr. Alford <br />and carried, the retirement was accepted and approved. <br />ACCEPT AND APPROVE RETIREMENT - RICK SWITALSKI <br />President Rodriguez advised that Chief Howard Buchanon has submitted to the Board the <br />Application and Declaration for retirement for Assistant Chief Rick Switalski effective <br />July 7, 2007. Chief Buchanon noted that Assistant Chief Switalski has served the <br />Department with loyalty and distinction during the last thirty-seven (37) years and one <br />(1) month. Chief Buchanon joined the Board in thanking him for his commitment, <br />dedication, and distinguished years of service to the South Bend Fire Department and the <br />citizens of South Bend. Upon a motion made by Ms. Dempsey, seconded by Mr. Alford <br />and carried, the retirement was accepted and approved. <br />ACCEPT AND APPROVE RESIGNATION -BARRY SEBESTA, JR. <br />President Rodriguez advised that Chief Howard Buchanon has submitted to the Board a <br />letter of resignation from Engineer Barry Sebesta, Jr. effective July 8, 2007. Engineer <br />Sebesta has been accepted to the University of Pittsburgh to pursue his Masters Degree. <br />He has served the South Bend Fire Department and the citizens of South Bend for the last <br />five (5) years and one (1) month. Upon a motion made by Ms. Dempsey, seconded by <br />Mr. Alford and carried, the resignation was accepted and approved. <br />FILING OF MONTHLY STATISTICAL REPORT -JUNE 2007 <br />President Rodriguez indicated that unless there were questions or objections by members <br />of the Board, the statistical report for the month of June 2007 as submitted by the Fire <br />Department would be accepted for filing. Ms. Dulcet was an outstanding cadet with <br />the Police Department, who was involved in many community events, and an avid <br />volleyball player. Chief Fautz noted he had expectations for her to become the first <br />female Chief of Police, she was thought so highly of. The Board of Safety joined together <br />to offer prayers to the family of Cadet Kelly Dulcet. ' <br />ADJOURNMENT <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, President Rodriguez declared <br />the meeting adjourned at 9:28 a.m. <br />
