REGULAR MEETING JULY 18.2007 ~ ~ .: <br />RESCHEDULE BOARD OF PUBLIC SAFETY MEETING <br />Upon a motion by Mr. Cottrell, seconded by Mr. BonDurant and carried, the regular <br />meeting of the Board of Safety of August 8, 2007, was rescheduled to August 15, 2007 at <br />8:00 a.m. with an additional Executive Session for Board Members at 9:45 a.m. <br />NOTRE DAME UNIVERSITY POLICE DEPARTMENT CAR PROJECT <br />Mr. Jason Kulick, University of Notre Dame Department of Electrical Engineering, <br />' presented the Board with a Project Synopsis his department has been working on to <br />address the electrical system problems the Police Department has been experiencing with <br />their police cars. Mr. Kulick noted there was an experimental vehicle outside of the <br />County City Building that he was prepared to do a demonstration of the system after the <br />adjournment of the meeting. He noted the Electrical Engineering Department was seeking <br />a provisional patent application for their system so he could not reveal all of the details at <br />this time. Chief Fautz thanked him for taking on the project and noted that Police <br />Departments around the country have similar concerns with their police cars. <br />ACCEPT AND APPROVE RETIREMENT -JAMES CLARK <br />President Rodriguez advised that Chief Thomas Fautz has submitted to the Board the <br />Application and Declaration for retirement for Lieutenant James E. Clark effective <br />August 5, 2007. Chief Fautz noted that Lieutenant Clark is retiring in good standing after <br />serving the department for thirty-three (33) years, seven (7) months and five (5) days. <br />Chief Fautz joined the Board in wishing him success in his new endeavor, along with <br />thanking him for his many years of service with the South Bend Police Department. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Cottrell, seconded by Mr. BonDurant and carried, the <br />retirement was accepted and approved. <br />FILING OF MONTHLY STATISTICAL ANALYSIS REPORT -JUNE 2007 <br />President Rodriguez indicated that unless there were questions or objections by members <br />of the Board, the statistical report for the month of June 2007 as submitted by the Police <br />Department would be accepted for filing. Chief Buchanon noted that Engineer Swiatowy has served the Department with <br />loyalty and distinction during the last thirty-three (33) years and eight (8) months. Chief <br />Buchanon joined the Board in thanking him for his commitment, dedication, and <br />distinguished years of service to the South Bend Fire Department and the citizens of <br />South Bend. Upon a motion made by Ms. Dempsey, seconded by Mr. Alford and carried, <br />the retirement was accepted and approved. <br />ACCEPT AND APPROVE RETIREMENT -RANDY MAGDALINSKI <br />President Rodriguez advised that Chief Howard Buchanon has submitted to the Board the <br />Application and Declaration for retirement for Assistant Chief Randy Magdalinski <br />effective July 7, 2007. Chief Buchanon noted that Assistant Chief Magdalinski has served <br />the Department with loyalty and distinction during the last thirty-six (36) years and one <br />
