REGULAR MEETING MAY 22. 1995
4. High Pressure Water System: The specifications state that the high pressure water
systems operate at 35 GPM and 60 GPM at a continuous 2,000 P.S.I. On the Vactor
Model 2110 the change in GPM while maintaining the 2,000 P.S.I. is accomplished
by turning a control knob at the operator's station. On the Vac -Con model
390THA/1000 the change in GPM while maintaining the 2,000 P.S.I. is
accomplished by changing the size of hose (600 ft) and the nozzle size, or by
changing the stuffing boxes, plungers and packing in the water pump (items not
supplied in the bid). Whichever method used would be very time consuming and
decrease productivity. Also the water pump cannot be disconnected from its power
source as specified. In case of an emergency the auxiliary engine needs to be shut
off to stop the 2,000 P.S.I.
Other areas not to specifications:
Vac -Con uses three (3) steel fans instead of two (2) aluminum fans.
The pick-up hose rotation is a gear type drive instead of hydraulic as specified.
High pressure water pump belts driven not hydraulic as specified.
No oil to water heat exchanger for hydraulic oil as specified.
No monitor light to indicate when designed flow or pressure is exceeded.
Rear engine gauges on traffic side of truck.
Vac -Con did not bid options or extended warranties.
Therefore, Mr. Leszczynski made a motion that the recommendation be accepted and the bid be
awarded as outlined above. Mrs. Manier seconded the motion which carried.
AWARD BID - LIGHT BULBS
Mr. George Zana, Purchasing Manager, Division of Equipment Services, advised the Board that on
May 8, 1995, bids were received and opened for the above referred to items. After reviewing those
bids, Mr. Zana recommends that the Board award the contract as follows:
ALL PHASE ELECTRIC SUPPLY
1385 Bendix Drive
South Bend, Indiana 46628
Item Est.
